The Hawk’s Baseball team set the table for that 2nd seed for a post-season run with their win from start to finish against a Texan team that CL had not beaten at their confines since 2010 with a, 5-3 outcome.

Way to make a Deposit Go Hawks!!

This game was a heavy weight fight starting this affair, as both teams’ first inning, was entertaining offensive and defensively.

Your Hawks got things going with two singles from the Anderson Twins that were followed by a Wall Scraper double for Carter Williams scoring those first tallies.

Then Griffen Williams walked while CL looked like there would not be anyone that would get that first out.

So now the situation had, The Lake,  with 2 runners on base- 2 runs scoring – and no outs for Brayden Welch.

Welched worked a full count before lining a soft liner to shallow right field that the Wimbo fielder ran up for a catch and  throw to 2nd and then 1st resulting in a Triple Play (one of the rarest plays in baseball) and no more damage.

Wimberley was like minded when they had their first 4 batters reaching base with a lead-off walk then a two-run homer to tie the game with no outs.

                 Way to Go Hawks!!

Then another walk that was followed with a double and a lead for….but….but…a play at the plate kept this game tied. It was a Ty Sellers’ throw to Hayden Baker to Chase Anderson for a run saving out.

Wimberley still had a runner on 3rd with one out and a come-backer to Pitcher Hunter Anderson spelled doom for this potential run with a quickly tossed ball to Catcher Chase Anderson for another run stopping out.

Want more theatrics? Seeing 2nd Baseman Travis Parma catch-up to a ball placed to short right-field.  Parma scoop and firing to first base for that ending inning 3rd out and keeping this contest as a, 2-2 tie after one inning. Whew!!

                  Let’s Go Hawks!!

CL was not thru tho when Baker greeted his first pitched ball with a double too left field and scoring after taking 3rd base on a wild-pitch and getting the lead back when Parma put the pitch in play and reached base on an error, 3-2 Hawk lead.

Wimberley would draw even in the 3rd frame on a two out single after Canyon Lake limited this damage with their 16th double play which is the most for a season.

The Lake would rope-a-dope their lead back in the 4th inning after Baker worked a lead-off walk and stole 2nd base and scored on a 2-out Chase single giving Canyon Lake the lead that would not be relinquished, 4-3.

Then a rarity happened next when the 5th frame had both teams with a 1-2-3 out sequence inning. Both pitchers combined for 19 pitches when those first 4 frames had 165 throws to the plate averaging, 33 pitches.

Insurance was in the cards in the 7th as Chase Anderson reached after being hit by a pitch (*hbp)

**This Texan pitcher had a change-up pitch that was slower than his change-up pitch. The ball thrown floated two feet short of home-plate and bounced gingerly hitting Chase on his leg (don’t look for a bruise) for a free pass.

                      Hawk Proud

Chase would score on a 2-out wild pitch and a Hawk 2-run lead, 5-3.

Luke Roskin entered in the 9th and closed out this game using 14 pitches and giving CL a series sweep over Wimberley which places The Lake in the driver’s seat for a 2nd seed post-season.

If Canyon Lake can get a sweep over our Back-Bone Friends at the Hawk Nest  this Friday then that 2nd place finish will be clinched due to CL’s having those two series’ wins over Davy and Wimbo.
