A walk was not as good as a hit as Hawks beat State Ranked Boerne, 7-0.

                    Way to GO Hawks!!

Canyon Lake’s Pitcher Luke Roskin (5-2) one hit the 4th Ranked Greyhounds but in so doing also walked 7 batters (one was intentional) leaving this Boerne team grasping for a hit as a team averaging right at 8 runs per outing before Roskin’s gem!

Helped by an inning ending double play in the 6th, Roskin would finish stronger leaving no Greyhound on base during those last two frames.

Roskin has now kept Boerne with a goose egg for his last 11 inning pitched this season against this powerhouse ball club.

“When I saw where we had a chance to win the game and it would be a big win if we could,” Roskin started when asked about his outing. “So, I was trying to throw strikes but obviously it did not work out but it (walks)  happens.”

Roskin continued, “My change-up was really working today and I had a lot of smooth additions to that and that helped me to progress and it was a huge win!”

Way to Make it Count Hawks!!

On if he was getting tired in those latter innings, “No…I didn’t…I had a lot of adrenaline and it was going pretty strong…I was pretty pumped up and I just kept it going.”

Roskin’s last free pass was in the top of the 4th and then those (no longer as good as a hit) situations became extinct allowing that one flair hit to right field and a Hawk error allowing a Greyhound to reach base to finish this win.

CL’s defense has been a key ingredient as that double play was the 15th this season which tied last year’s team who reached that number in 33 games.

The Lake struck first when Chase Anderson took the first pitch for a right field gap-per for a double. Hunter Anderson followed with a bunt single giving CL base runners on the corners. That bunted ball was left looking up at 3 different Greyhounds bout 3 feet from home plate as they were waiting for the ball to go foul. In other words perfect.

         Hits Are Better Than Walks!!

Hunter would beat a potential double play ball to 2nd base on Griffen Williams grounder that allowed Chase to score what would prove to be the winning run.

Two innings later Hunter would start with another infield hit (speed kills) and would steal two bases combined with a wild pitch to score.

Brayden Welch had walked and then was in a run-down that allowed Hunter to steal home and a Hawk, 2-0 lead.

It was the 5th inning that CL broke the dam when Travis Parma led off the frame with a single which was followed by a bunt single for Chase (speed kills) and two Hawks on base and no outs.

Hunter would take one for the team when hit by a pitch that loaded the bases and Carter Williams would get the first of two sacrifice flies in this inning scoring Parma.

    Hawk Proud

A Griffen Williams single scored Chase then a single for Welch that led to a Hayden Baker sac fly followed by one more single off the bat of Ty Sellers (his 2nd hit) driving in more insurance runs and a Hawk, 7-0 lead.

Those walks can sink a team most of the time, but on this night it was a mute point when a team can only muster one hit.

Canyon Lake will finish the series with Boerne at their Greyhound Kennel on Friday and a chance to see if the Hawks can figure out the pitcher (Landon LeStourgeon) that had CL’s number in that first, 2-1 setback.

Numbers to Contemplate:

* During Chase Anderson’s 11 game hitting streak has a .450 average.
