Canyon Lake’s Baseball season came to an end against a superior Bellville Brahmas team, 3-1 on Saturday in tan Area round of the playoffs.

We are Proud of the Hawks!!

Another tough pitcher had CL’s number holding the Hawks to 5 singles and missing out on several opportunities for that key hit that never happened.

The Brahmas’ opened the contest scoring on a Hawk error and CL would draw even on a Carter Williams sacrifice fly in the third inning.

The Lake started that promising frame with two singles (Travis Parma & Chase Anderson) and a sacrifice bunt off the bat of Hunter Anderson that had two Hawks in a scoring position.

Next was Carter Williams fly-ball rbi and now with 2 outs, Griffen Williams was intentionally walked and two Hawks still on base.

Then the only CL player that finished with multiple hits (Hayden Baker) could not get bat on ball for a chance of more runs but the game was still tied, 1-1.

                       Way to GO HAWKS!!

Bellville would respond with a two out single that was followed with a stolen base and what would be that winning run and a Brahma hit and lead, 2-1.

A lead off walk in that next inning for Parma who would be left stranded as the top of the Hawk batting order could not capitalize.

Baker had his 2nd single in the 6th inning and moved to 2nd base on a ground out but Ty Sellers worked a full count but a strikeout would leave another Hawk stranded in scoring position.

Parma was perfect in getting on base as he took one for the team (hit by a pitch) with one out in that final stanza and then a two out walk for Hunter Anderson put two runners on base but Carter after working the count full came up empty in this Hawk, lose and go home,  affair.

Way to Make it Count Hawks!!

Canyon Lake finished with 22 wins and it was the 3rd consecutive season reaching that 20 win plateau. In fact, The Lake, has now finished their last 6 seasons with double digit wins.

“It was a fun bunch to coach,” Head Coach Victor Escamilla commented. “We, the coaches, enjoyed the 2023 team. We will miss them and look forward to building next year’s squad.”

Building a team will certainly be on the table with 13 players getting their diploma in a couple of weeks.

This year had 8 players that will be returning for another chance to continue a Hawk tradition with another stellar campaign.

This loss will probably knock the Hawks out of the top 25 rankings. But a ton of Seniors leaving a big mark on the record books will attest to a group of players that have given the Hawk Nation a lot of joy through their years on the diamond.

We are Proud of these Hawks and Way to Go Seniors!!
