CL Lady Hawks Track & Field-State Meet
The ReSporter: Give me your thoughts on your Senior Ladies that participated this year.
Coach Theurer: “All the seniors (McKenzie Ortez, Claire Schroeder, Alencia Lentz, Taylor Givens, Kyley Givens and Maddie Oberholtzer) contributed in huge ways this season. McKenzie with her fantastic starts out of the blocks in our 4x100m and 4x200m relays or running whatever the team needed her to run. Maddie running in 4x100m and 4x400m relays in multiple positions and also in long jump. Claire in the 300 H and her stepping up in the 4x100m relay team that set the new school record and running in the 4×400 relay during Texas Relays. Alencia is an amazing athlete running in all three relays which set all new school records and then making it to state in PV to hopefully claim the title again. The Givens twins have ran JV all four years at CL, but have contributed to the 4x100m and 4x200m relays all four years. The seniors really do a great job leading and bringing the girls together. Setting the example as far as expectations and representing the CL community.”
The ReSporter: As this group of ladies continue to get more good athletes from MVMS…what are your thoughts on next year to continue to build on all these ‘new’ all-time school records.
Coach Theurer: “The team has really laid the foundation for incoming athletes to work hard and lift our program to the next level. Our district is a tough one and to compete with the top teams in our district is what it’s all about. As they say, records were made to be broken, just do it!”
The ReSporter: You are now at the stage where the All-Time are not beating other Hawks but themselves with their new marks. How do you motivate those Girls on continuing to up there game. so to speak….
Coach Theurer: “Motivating these girls to go out and beat themselves on the track and in the field is not on me. They are totally all in when it comes to getting better, especially if it means beating their own records. Keep leveling up.”
The ReSporter: What will Alencia need to do to repeat? Who will be her competition in Austin?
Coach Theurer: “Alencia has a ton of pressure to compete like she has all year and vault her best. To repeat is a lot of pressure on it’s own, but there are also a few girls in the state meet that are vaulting 13’7″ and higher. Alencia is going to show up and do her best, leaving everything out on the field.”
The ReSporter: Thanks Coach and share overall thoughts for this concluded season.
Coach Theurer: “I am so blessed to have had this great season with such amazing young women. They push each other and the cheer for each other. Canyon Lake is where it’s at and moving back to the green and gold has been fantastic! I just want to thank the parents for sharing their awesome families with me and supporting our Hawks.”
Canyon Lake Girls Track & Field have placed two for the Texas State Meet.
The Lady Hawks covered all of their bases by placing Cadence Patterson for Track and Alencia Lentz for Field.
Patterson is the First Lady Hawk to performing as a individual runner in the 1600 meter run while Lentz will attempt a repeat competing in the Pole Vault.
CL did have a foursome run in the 4×400 relay last year but Patterson will be the first to go as an individual.
Jessica Cunningham (Pole Vault) and Marisa Ellis (High Jump & Triple Jump) have been the previous Hawksters in this position in those Field Events.
Ellis was the first Hawk to win a State Title in the High Jump 10 years ago.
Lentz has reached 14’2 this track season and last year won the Vault going 13-6 which was a record for 4A Classification.
The Lake had several athletes that have reached the top of the Hawks totem pole in grand fashion.
