Canyon Lake will be welcoming some new coaches during this coming 2023-24 season and The ReSporter would like to introduce you to Girl’s Basketball Coach Lauren Perez.

                   Let’s Go Hawks!!

Coach Perez is a transplant Texan from the Chicago area…Lauren played high school ball at Bolingbrook and was the school’s Female Athlete of the Year in 2004.

Lauren Perez was all-conference (district for those in Texas) in basketball and volleyball as a senior and accumulated multiple rewards while helping Bolingbrook win 3 consecutive conference titles and a IHSA Regional crown.

Bolingbrook would be classified as a 6A school in Texas and this team was ranked 3rd in the nation during this period.

She played her college ball at Lewis University as a forward and had her best season during the 2008-09 year. Perez averaged 24 minutes and averaged 16.7 points per outing.

Lauren Perez found herself during a tournament at a job fair where she saw that Clear Creek HS in the Houston area was looking for a coach to help open that new school.

She flew down with her Mom (Pat) to Texas to check out the situation and immediately fell in Love with Texas.

“We were delayed by snow leaving Chicago.” Perez quipped. “And I had never been to Texas but I fell in love with it because I would rather be in warm weather.

She was the head coach of Pearland and won district 4 out her 7 seasons and made the playoffs each campaign from 2015-2021.

Perez’s family moved to Dripping Springs and she served as their Middle School Coordinator and the family relocated to Blanco but Coach Perez continued working in DSMS.

Husband Jacob works for Tesla and they have a 2 1/2 year old boy (Jordy) and an 11 month old girl (Austyn).

On what her hopes are as she enters her first year at The Lake, “I am wanting to build a basketball I.Q. while focusing on the fundamentals….and growing that part of the game.”

Coach Perez continued, “A big key would be in uniting our athletes and build a culture to help get these girls excited.”

Canyon Lake will have a Basketball Camp for the 6th thru 9th graders on June 27-29 and that cost will be $60. This would also give the local young ladies a chance to up their skills while getting to know Coach Perez.

Welcome to Canyon Lake Coach and Good Luck!!
