The Lake Welcomes Daniella Villarreal as CL’s Volleyball Coach
Canyon Lake Athletics will welcome a new Volleyball Coach this season in Daniella (Dani) Villarreal who was a star player as a NB Unicorn and UTSA Roadrunner during her playing days.
This will be Villarreal’s first stint as a high school head coach but she does comes to the hill-country after garnering her head coaching skills working for teams for the Alamo Volleyball Association this past 6 years. Villarreal played 3 years during her high school career for this same Association.
When asked what type of volleyball she likes to play, “The type of game where the ball does not hit the floor and I will stress the serve and pass aspects.”
Villarreal played as Libero during her high school and college career. She played varsity as a freshman at both venues.
While playing for the Unicorns she helped her team finish as runner-up at State in 2012. She earned a place on SA Express-News Super Team.
“Yeah, our group had played together way before reaching Middle School and were able to reach State,” Villarreal remembered. “Our familiarity helped that season with our consistency.
On what she has seen thus far at The Lake? “We have around 30 coming to our volleyball skill workouts and I like competition so we have teams playing summer league against San Antonio teams and I don’t care who we are playing because I just want these girls to compete and work on their chemistry and obviously…..have fun!!”
“They are doing a good job of being here,” Coach continued. “We will continue to work on our skills and fundamentals and I’m excited to be here!”
The vivacious Villarreal continued, “We are in a very good district and we will work on being problem solvers on the court and always learn whether we lose or win.”
Jake and Anissa Villarreal are her parents and Dani has a brother (Jake Ryan) and sister (Mia).
Her best stats come in the form of being studious and Coach Villarreal was a four time academic all-district selection in high school and she continued that same work ethic at UTSA being named Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll all 4 years as a RoadRunner.
CL Hawks Volleyball will get going in August and will have just 6 home games this year with that first contest coming in the form of a district foe against Navarro on September 8th.
Brutal schedule but Coach Villarreal takes that challenge as she will’s the Hawks to give their best. The CL Nation will look forward to seeing what this group of ladies aspire too.
Welcome Coach Dani Villarreal and GO HAWKS!!
