++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

This year’s battle will have two schools looking to get that bad taste out of their mouths after losses to Wimberley and Salado.

Salado was a pass first team and used that weapon scoring 45 points and leading throughout that contest with Freddie. The Billies did make the game interesting when they battled back trailing, 28-27 in the 3rd quarter, but the back and forth affair favored the visitors for this outing.

FHS was led offensively by QB Reed Spies who completed, 12-28 passes for 191 yards throwing 3 touchdowns. Spies was also their leading rusher on 19 attempts that covered 129 yards.

Aaron Cantu was next rushing for 86 yards on 12 carries while all of the Billies’ receivers finished with more that 30 yards and Asher Goehmann led this group with 3 catches for 66 yards and a score.

Defensively, the Billies was led by Kadin Kunz with 10 tackles and Linebacker Brett Bowers had 7 tackles and 2 sacks.

Freddie has won 3 of the last 4 games in this series and after being tested through the air last week will now have a polar opposite battle with The Lake who sports a slo-t running offense. That will be an interesting tidbit to watch to see if this might benefit a Lake team that was a no-show against an always tough defense that is not threatened by a running offense playing Wimberley.

Canyon Lake had a hard time in all 3 phases in that loss to Wimbo and now a chance to see if that old adage of improving from game one to game two comes about.

The ReSporter would go out on a limb and say that improvement from 1st to 2nd week will work for only one of these two schools on Friday…well maybe not. As The Lake has a much better chance of coming out of the tunnel with a better game compared to their opener.

Should be a good game with both teams needing a win to rectify a disappointing, out of the gate stumble, in those first outings.

Let’s Go Hawks!!
