Canyon Lake’s next opponent will have speed and bring a winning record to the table with a run game as their strength.
Tayveon Warren leads in the gained yardage category but there are 4 other players that are within 20 yards of matching Warren’s 181 steps after playing 3 games.
Veterans’ receiving corps is led by Ja’Kwon Downing with 11 receptions for 161 yards. Downing is 2nd on the rushing Totem Poll going for 171 yards. The next receiver with 5 catches is Anthony Arreola which are mostly possession receptions for a 6 yards average.
Defensively, the Patriots have given up 288 rushing yardage for an anemic 3 yards per carry. Two of the 3 teams played were pass first and the one school that was a loss had a balanced attack but these stats might be misleading based on Taft having a 28 first quarter start that can and will change a game plan for many coaches.
Veterans Memorial have given up a little over 200 yards per contest thru the air and right at 300 yards total per game.
The Lake will have to work on stopping the run as that veterans loss was based on their worst running game thus far.
CL will need to slow down and not let this Veteran’s team get wide as that speed will be lethal.
If Canyon Lake can have a conventional slot-t offense and score by taking up time will help a long with getting enough defensive stops that would move the needle in CL’s favor.
VM has turned the ball over 5 times which could help the Visitors and one last tidbit which could come into play has the Patriots averaging right at 10 penalties per game.
On the flip-side, Canyon Lake has turned the ball over 2 times per outing which needs to be reduced to give The Lake a chance for a competitive outing.
The Hawks have established two players (Caden Rodriguez & Carter Williams) with 240 yards rushing and having Harris Gilliam with 10 receptions averaging 18 yards per catch.
Williams has also topped the 100 yards receiving barrier and the Hawks will need those athletes to bring their ‘A’ game for this contest.
Winnable? Yes….but there will be a need for the stars to be aligned and ball’s bouncing in CL’s favor.
Let’s Go Hawks!!
