Canyon Lake’s Cross Country Boys & Girls had a good day in the Canyon Cougar Invitational XC meet last week.

How good? Both squads went where no other Hawk Cross Country has ever gone with the Lady Hawks finishing 2nd and the Boys winning it all.

                 Way to Go Hawks!!

For a little perspective, is seeing how Cadence Patterson looks to be in top form during this time of the season as her winning time was over a minute faster than her closest competitor.  That can translate into a taster race if she had a runner in her shadow. That scenario of closer competition could have given Patterson more incentive to pick up her pace and have a faster result.

With Eva Zabarcenco and Hannah Hammer finishing in that top 5 group gave CL  3 solid athletes and seeing if Avery Hime and Saige Childers can improve their times that would help jettison this team to a higher finish.

Hemann closest competitor finished  20 second later and having  Tristan Schenk with a strong 3rd place run helped in securing a first place.

CL’s Cross Country is in rarified air as this gives a glimpse of what could be two teams sharing a chance of not just sending one runner but a team based on improvement before to the next level in post-season races.

Go Hawks & Fly High this year!!

“The kids were really pleased with their performance on the field,” Head Cross Country Coach Sami Theurer said after an earlier meet the week before at the 21st Annual CC Invitational (FEAST) 2023 Meet. “They knew the tract was going to be a fast pace and they did a good job preparing to put their best efforts into the race. Several team members PRd and also set new school records.”

Those sentiments continued to fruition as more PR’s and a school record team finishing 1st and 2nd.

That race also had a Cadence Patterson and Layton Hemann 1st place finishes. Eva Zabarcenco (7th place finish) and Tristan Schenk (10th place finish) were next athlete on that day.

Cadence Patterson and taking it one step at a time!!

The Lake will be back to work next week when they have two meets scheduled. On Wednesday
September 20th at the Antler Run in Kerrville and then the Hoka Invitational that Saturday the 23rd.
