Canyon Lake Boy’s Basketball had stiffer competition in playing Hondo but this Owl team still has players missing due to their football playoffs so take this 44 point win with a grain of salt, 87-43.

                       Let’s GO HAWKS!!

Granted the grain of salt still made the meal tasty but there will soon be broccoli or sauerkraut in the offing as this season continues.

On this Tuesday night game, The Lake, did face some adversity when Hondo took the lead during the first 4 1/2 minutes of play. CL was able to get their first lead when Dalton Stromquist sank a free throw for a 10-9 advantage.

That was when the curtain was opened wide and these Hawks finished the next 3:34 of that 1st stanza by outscoring these sleeping Owls for a 15-0 run and a lead that would not be threatened for the rest of this game.

Head Coach Monte Cole commented, “We started the first few minutes a little slow but then got going. Our press looked better and we forced some turnovers and scored. Kids did a good job of being unselfish and shared the ball well.”

CL finished with 4 players finishing with double digit scoring with Mario Aguilar (19) and Jacob Holland (18) leading in the point department.

                          Go Hawks!!

Holland had his best night as a Hawk with his shooting 60% from the field while also garnering 5 rebounds and led the team by sinking 3 shots from beyond the arc.

Aguilar also had a full stat line leading the team with 6 made free throws, 5 assists, and 2 block shots.

Harris Gilliam (11 pts) and Dalton Stromquist (13 pts) finished the double digit scoring brigade which had two other Hawks right at the doorstep scoring 9 points for Eddie Zdunczyk and Jean Paul Alexander.

Every Hawk had an assist and steal with 5 players swatting away at least one Owl shot during this blowout.

A great thing to see was seeing this Hawk team sinking 20 free throws with a 74% percentage which has not been a Hawk trait…ever.

With 20 assists with an added 22 steals helping to keep CL increasing their lead after finishing the night outscoring Hondo, 21-7 in that final quarter.

The next game will be much different when the Hawks will go on the road against RR McNeil (2-0) on Friday starting at 7:00pm.

You will be able to ask The Lake if they liked what was being served after this game playing a much tougher opponent.

CL will be back at the Hawk nest next Monday (Lago Vista) & Tuesday (Burnet) with 1pm starts for both games.

Let’s Go Hawks (sometimes you need to hold your nose when eating food you might not like).
