Hawks Boy’s Basketball Figuring Things Out

Ryan Alvarez ready to score in earlier game played this year. Go Hawks!!

The Lake’s Hawk Boys Basketball team left last week looking at a 3 game losing streak after starting this season overpowering a couple of teams that turned out to be glorified scrimmages.

              Way to Go Hawks!!

This past week’s battles did give the team some good measuring sticks as more tournaments and tougher competition looms.

In the loss to Round Rock McNeil, CL played a foe that resides in 6A who had more depth with talented players. It was a set-back that was expected. Then a week playing a couple of 4A schools that both became nail-biters after close losses.

Lago Vista (55-50) and Burnet (60-57) showed more weaknesses that needs to be worked on but this is the time of year where schools should be more focused on where they need to be before district gets going.

“We got more out of the second game (Burnet) as far as execution,” Head Coach Monte Cole stated when asked what was learned from last week’s games. “I thought we did a better job on offense on Tuesday and competed better.”

This time of year isn’t always bout winning every game but needing to learn enough to be able to compete in one of the toughest districts each season,

                       Let’s GO HAWKS!!

“We’re seeing different looks from teams on defense which will better prepare us for district,” Coach Cole continued. “Defense is where we have to improve. We’re playing hard but have to play smarter and play better team defense. We’re about to play a lot of games in the next couple of weeks and use those games to get better so we will be ready for district.”

The Lake will host La Vernia on Tuesday with tip-off at approx 6:30pm and then CL will on the road at the Aransas Pass Tournament which is their second tournament those games start on Thursday.

The good news for the Hawks is expecting the return of 3 players that have been missing in action nursing injuries and these 3 players were starters on last year’s team.

     Canyon Lake ‘Hawk’ Proud!!

Jaxson Jeter and Carter Williams have yet to have significant on court time and Dalton Stromquist who did get a little over 2 games to start this season.

This will allow other players to get valuable playing time which should hopefully result in CL being able have deep ball club without a big drop-off while game situations might call for Coach Cole to help keep Canyon Lake with a stronger presence on the hardwood through out any upcoming contest.

After next week’s home game with La Vernia on Tuesday then the Hawks will have a 3 week absence before their next home game against Fredericksburg on Tuesday December 19th.

Let’s Go Hawks!!
