Canyon Lake’s Boys Basketball (5-6) finished last week’s tourney in Port Aransas with a 3 game winning streak and will be in Llano tonight before heading to Devine for their 2nd tournament this year in Devine.

                           Go Hawks!!

“This group is still figuring some things out,” Head Coach Monte Cole started. “We are still making too many mental errors but they play hard. We talked during a timeout in our last game about finishing the game by making good decisions on offense and stops on defense. I think we’ve grown since last year because I’m not sure last year we finish that game with a win. These games are all about learning and getting ready for district.”

In that Hallettsville game (the contest Coach Cole is talking about above) had CL sporting a 9 point advantage entering their 4th Quarter and needed to hold off their opponent’s blitz for that one point, 47-46 win.

The Hawks presently have an eight man rotation as the team waits for the return of 3 starters from last year’s team still nursing injuries.

Jacob Holland and Mario Aguilar continue to lead the team in scoring while Harris Gilliam has made his presence known as the present leader fighting for rebounds as he leads the team in that category.

                        Let’s Go Hawks!!

Eddie Zdunczyk, Jean Paul Alexander, and Logan Lewis each bring a different element (steals-assists-etc)  to each game and that will continue to be a strength as each player learns how to use those attributes and get the most from players during the heat of a battle.

Ryan Alvarez has been getting valuable minutes inside while Reese Pipkin is using his guard skills in helping the team smooth out some rough spots in those ebb-and-flow’s part of a game.

A 3 game winning streak that broke a 6 game streak of being on the wrong end of the stick but another tournament when The Lake will start against a Jones team followed by Somerset to start the Devine Tourney this Thursday.

Breaking even with a chance to hit a stride as the CLHS goes into their Fredericksburg district battle, Tuesday December 19th.
