Hawk Baseball Start a Devine Season with Win, 3-2

Luke Roskin struck-out 12 in a Devine win to start the season.

Canyon Lake Baseball has now opened their season with the 6th win in a row after staving off Devine on the road, 3-2. The Lake has a 6-1 record under the tutelage of Head Coach Victor Escamilla and that one loss was a 3-2 set-back against Llano on his first year.

                  Way to Go Hawks!!

CLHS had a combined no-hitter as Luke Roskin started this opener with 5 innings with two runners reaching due to errors and a walk that was erased with a caught stealing in that 3rd frame.

These Warhorses scored their two runs in the 6th inning after a comeback one hopper to pitcher Carter Williams to start that inning. After a walk, Williams got his 2nd out via a strikeout, but two more free passes and error loaded the bases before a pitch strikeout to end that challenge.

CL Hawks did end this contest with a feel good 1-6-3 double play.

Tanner House first start and first at bat found the outer reaches over the left/center field fence to start the 2nd inning.

Go Hawks & Way to Fly High!!

“I was just trying to reach 2nd base if the ball hit the fence because I was the first batter in the inning and I want to help the team anyway I can,” Take-it-to-the House said bout his at bat.

That lead increased to 3 runs in the top of the 6th inning when Gram Simpson led off this frame with a single then a stolen base followed by fielding error and scored on a wild pitch.

Williams worked his second walk this game next and advanced to 2nd on that same wild pitch. Then a seeing eye single for Roskin to the short right field scored Williams for a 3-run lead.

Those runs would be pivotable as the Warhorses responded likewise scoring 2 runs on free passes followed by an error.

Roskin and Williams combined striking out 14 Devine players which would prove enough for this victory.

Canyon Lake will be back in action this Thursday in Sinton with a 1:30 first pitch against Flour Bluff a team CL scrimmaged earlier this month.

The Lake will face Goliad (9am) & Austin High (1:30p) on Friday and finish with a 9a game with Rock-port Saturday.

Let’s GO HAWKS!!
