Softball: Marble Fell to Lady Hawk’s, 14-12

Canyon Lake and Marble Falls battled it out Tuesday and ended up with a 2 run win for the good gals, 14-12. In fact, this battle lasted longer than the Alamo skirmish by using 282 combined pitches, 26 runs, 24 hits, 13 walks, 2 hit batters, 6 errors, a collision on the base paths and several visits between coaches and game officials.

Final tally had this contest starting at 7pm and ending 3 hours and 13 minutes later. It would be the longest 6.5 innings ever at the Hawk Nest that had those Hawk eggs in their nest being able to hatch and learned how to fly before that final out.

The Lake had a two run lead after the first inning, 3-1 and that same lead at the end, 14-12. MFalls had the lead twice during that top of the Mustangs first at bat and then during the top of the 5th inning, 11-10.

Each of those instances CL would respond  with 3 run answers and an eventual win.

Aubrey Long started in the circle for 3 innings before Rianna Gonzales would ride the wave to shore pitching those last 4 frames in getting the win.

Leading the hit parade was Gonzales who had a triple and two singles driving in 4 Hawks. There were 4 other Lady Hawks with two hits (Alysa Johnson, Marley Christian, Aubrey Long, and Emalie Mendoza).

Lead off hitter, Gabby Barnes reached base with 4 walks and CL had 9 Hawks scoring at least once.

That 3rd inning won the prize for lasting the longest stint of 30 minutes compiling a combined 8 runs, 5 walks and 71 pitches.

A collision between 2nd baseman Aubrey Avey (fielding a ground ball) and the 1st base runner had the MFall’s Coach making several visits to the infield making a case for his player not receiving an out for this happenstance.

But, (20 *minutes later), to no avail and Marble fell everywhere on the field.

This was a much needed win for Canyon Lake who had just finished a 6A tournament that had your Hawks with several losses.

Next up will see The Lake heading to a Llano tournament this weekend for a chance to get more positive results.
