Track & Field Continues Improvement in Hawk Relays
Canyon Lake’s Track Teams hosted the Hawk Relays this past Thursday and the Ladies finished 3rd overall against another week of strong programs.
The Lady Hawks had some more pr’s (personal best) results and were led by Cadence Patterson (3 events) who scored 22 points followed by Savanna Oberholtzer (4 events) with 17 points.
Other athletes reaching double figure scoring was Aubrey Avey, Ayren Lightfoot and Shana Cutrer with 14 points each while Hannah Hammer finished 2nd in her 800 meter run and 4×400 relay with 12 points.
Coach Sami Theurer assessed this meet, “Tried some new things in this meet when it comes to our relays. We also had some girls that were out due to injury. That being said, we still did fairly well. Girls Varsity ended up third and JV took fifth. This week we will host a middle school meet on Wednesday and have time trials on Thursday.”
In those relays it was Patterson who was a new comer in that 4×400 relay when she had just finished 2nd in the 1600 meter run (with a new personal best) 5:05.30 and then 20 minutes later was running the 3rd leg of that relay group of girls.
In that mile relay, The Lake took 6 seconds off their finish from their Comal Meet, running a 4:06.39 when Avey, Hammer, and Lightfoot joined Patterson in that event that became the 2nd all-time best in CL’s history after last year’s 4×400 had a best of 4:02.33 who went to State.
Patterson presently has the best marks in the 1600 (5:05.30) & 3200 (10:52.11) runs in the 4A classification this season.
Lightfoot’s (58.02) 400 meter run was not only a pr but she passed Skylar Hurst’s (58.28) time during the 2017 season.
Other notable thoughts on those other Hawks that have have been threatening to make an appearance to State compared the this year’s best so far in 4A schools.
