Hawk’s Baseball Finish 3-1-1 at Legacy Tourney

Head Coach Victor Escamilla shares thoughts after earlier win over Devine.

CL Hawks opened the Legacy Tourney giving up 2 runs and 9 hits in 14 innings and a shared 3 pitcher shut-out over Highlands, 6-0.

             Way to GO HAWKS!!

That first game with Wagner was a heartbreaking tie after an error helped Wagner tie the game in the 7th frame as the Hawk bats could only muster 3 singles.

The Lake absorbed a 4-3 loss to El Paso Franklin by giving up those 4 runs in the bottom of the 7th after CL started that same frame scoring their 3 runs in the top of that inning.

Pitching was, for the most part, had a good 5 games during those 3 days of action with CLHS finishing 10 games and allowing 3 runs per outing.

Head Coach Victor Escamilla answered what he looks for this week-end in preparing the team for district, “We are working on setting up our pitching rotation.”

It will be interesting on how a bevy of Lake arms jockey for a chance to be on the mound when district comes in earnest.

Coach Escamilla answered what takes to longest to come around when the season starts….Pitching or Hitting, “It takes longer for our batters because there is nothing we can do in practice that can compare to live at bats and getting enough live reps.”

With Canyon Lake opening district play this Tuesday on the road in Fredericksburg it will give a good indication on how CL’s bats and pitching responds to that added pressure.

Defensively, The Lake is averaging between one or two errors per game which should be a safe number, but that has not been the case yet based on not the number miscues but when they came during a game.

Those errors have become a major contributor in how CL finished with those losses and one tie.

After losing most of last year’s team to graduation this time around has produced a decent start which this season will put more stock on how pitching and defense will perform for a successful season.

District starts on the road in Freddie this Tuesday and then Canyon Lake’s Tournament will commence on Thursday when Medina Valley starts with a 9am first pitch that will be followed with a 7:30 battle against Corpus Christi Moody.

Keep it up and Go Lake!!
