Volleyball: Hawks Blow Bulldogs Fuse in Win, 3-0

Canyon Lake was able to extend their current win streak to 3 games after blowing Somerset’s Fuse for this Blow-Out sweeping the Bulldogs, 3-0.

Kira Cummings going for a kill shot. Go Lake!

The Lake had a rocky start in their Warrior Tournament last week but salvaged their last two games and will now prepare for the Seguin Matador Tourney next.

“This past weekend we competed well against 5A and 6A competition,” Head Volleyball Coach Daniella Villarreal stated. “I was a little disappointed in going 0-3 on the firs day as we had opportunities to finish off our opponents to pull out set wins, but we struggled in maintaining our leads.”

Those two losses to Sotomayer and Alamo Heights both had CL starting with first set wins but not quite getting over that last hurdle ending in losses.

“The second day we battled and finished strong going 2-1 for the day,” Coach Villarreal continued. We showed lots of fight and I was proud of the girls for pulling it together as we had different players in each game that stepped up in their roles.”

                            Go Hawks!!

On the Hawks win over Bulldogs, “Our win against Somerset was eventful as we had to pause the game for a storm power outage as the lights went off after being up 2 sets. After 45 minutes of waiting, we resumed play, and the girls were able to finish the game winning, 3-0. I was proud of how they handled the situation and still made the most of it with fun and positive energy.”

Canyon Lake was led in kills by Kyle Rodriguez with 7 and a good outing from Mackenzie Dorn who finished with 6 kills in this win.

Rodriguez (16) and Kira Cummings (20) digs led The Lake along with 20 assists from Chloe Gray.

Aces were dealt out 16 times in this outing as Chloe Gray collected 5 in this win.

Coach Villarreal closed with thoughts for Seguin Tourney, “This weekend I am hoping that we take our momentum from the Pieper tournament to lead us to success in this tournament. The Pieper tournament showed us that we can compete with any team and I want us to play with that confidence to help us to battle out each point, stay consistent in our play though the match, and pull out the wins no matter who our opponent is.”

Way to Go Lake!!
