Lake finish in 3rd Place in the Silver Bracket during the Spike Fest Tourney in Corpus. Go Hawks!!

Canyon Lake Volleyball finished their first week with a 5-2 record and will be looking to improve on that record when they meet Poth on Tuesday and then have their 2nd Tournament at Pieper this weekend.

                  Way to Go Hawks!!

The ReSporter caught up with Coach Dani Villarreal, “Overall, II and real pleased with the girls’ effort and proud of what they accomplished at the tournament.”

On her takeaway after a quick 6 games, “I was impressed with our offense as we have been working on that part of our game a lot in practice. We will continue to refine all aspects of the game, especially our offense and mental part of the game!”

“Chloe Gray led the offense effectively with her setting, Huntleigh Morast and Kylie Rodriguez were effective in putting the ball away, and Kira Cumming was stellar in leading our backrow in serve receive and defense,” Villarreal said.

                          Let’s Go Lake!!!

Coach Villarreal continued, “I told them that because of their consistent efforts in the offseason and summer together, that is why we are finding success as this did not just happen overnight. We are focused on the little wins that will add up to bigger wins win the end. That is why our focus for the season is ‘win the day’”.

The Hawks leaders for the tournament had Huntleigh Morast with 46 kills and Chloe Gray finished with 105 assists.

In the Hawks two losses against Gregory Portland and SA MacArthur saw the Good Gals not able to hold onto a 16-11 advantage during their first set before this 6A School was able to turn the tables. With the MacArthur contest, The Lake, had slip-ups that led to a first set loss, 25-21 and then CL turned the table and won by that same margin but losing those little things sealed the deal in this set-back.

Izzy Fory served up and led CLake with 9 aces with Cummings and Rodriquez both finishing the tourney accumulating 59 digs. Gray and Brooklyn Andrews had 4 blocks a piece to help on the defensive side of the tourney.

Canyon Lake will defend the Hawk Nest this Tuesday with that first serve commencing at 5pm with the Varsity Hawks following.
