Austin Crockett were Overmatched in Hawks, 56-0 Win

Linebacker Rowdy. Clancy & Defensive Lineman Joseph Matos Padilla shedding blocks for a chance getting the QB.

The Hawks were polar opposite from their opener when all 3 phases had a poor outing but during this home opener Canyon Lake had all three phases (Offense/Defense/Special Teams) on the mark with each phase scoring and finished with a, 56 point win over the Crockett Cougars.

                   Way to Go Hawks!!

This win was Head Coach Sam Parker’s first for his new home in the hill country for the and here’s hoping there will more as Parker responded, “I think you should talk the kids instead of me…I didn’t make one play today and they played amazing…obviously this is awesome and the community is awesome and just proud to be a part and very appreciative of the kids and the community and glad to be here.”

Coach Parker talked bout working with QB Jace Wheeler in contrast to handling pressure from opposing defenses, “Yeah, he saw the tape and got to see them about what they were about to give us and he did a great job with the ball in his hands obviously the offensive line played phenomenal tonight…you know he got to run 12 plays in the first half and scored 56 points but the defense didn’t allow their offense to cross the 50 yard line.”

Outside Linebacker Isiah Eureste took the coaches cue when he jumped started this evening on a 9 yard sack on 3rd down putting these Cougars in a punting formation against the wind resulting in losing 7 yards on the play.

                          Go Hawks!!

That had The Lake needing 4 yards for a score and Kaiden Lewis scored his first of 3 touchdowns which Canyon Lake would never looked back scoring 8 consecutive touchdowns.

Defense was displayed again forcing a fumble that left CLHS needing 9 yards for their next score that had Harris Gilliam on a jet sweep and 3 yard score.

That next Cougar drive had another defensive sack and then a Gilliam interception when he stepped in front the Coog receiver leaving another short drive that covered 29 yards and Lewis taking the rock for 23 yards for CL’s 3rd score and quick 21 point lead.

Hawk defense continued this time with another interception by Eureste who needed some help after his fumble but seeing Michael Anderson recovering the pigskin resulting in taking over 23 yards to pay dirt.

                    Stay in Shape Hawks!

Enter Gram Simpson with a crafty 23 yard run to the visitors sideline and final 1st quarter score leading to a dominant, 28-0.

Hagen Gill was automatic on his extra point tries for an A+ for Special Teams.

Carter Williams punt return accentuated the special teams….when he danced around several would be      tacklers before finding a seam and a 60 yard run for that next score.

Lewis (76 yards rushing) scored his 3rd and final TD this time from 18 yards out before Williams and QB Jace Wheeler would perform a perfect pass and catch play for 54 yards still leaving 5 minutes remaining before halftime.

Once again the defense had the last say and score when Defensive Lineman Matt Elson returned a fumble 20 yards for that final score. The return will certainly have the Hawk Coaches pondering a future running back position for Elson as he would not be denied getting to the end zone with running back moves for that final score.

Canyon Lake would become a more pedestrian team during that second stanza but this Hawk Defense would continue to rule the roost and CL’s offense would showcase running back Nico Wyckoff who finished with 115 yards of real estate.

Wyckoff was nursing an injury all of last season but showed that those bumps and bruises were a distance memory after this decent evening.

A lot of players making plays for a win that resulted in a…Go Go Hawks evening.
