Hawks Knock the Slot-T out of Navarro in 21-7 Win

Defensive Lineman #44 Dalton Hodges & #9 Wyatt Roberts wreak havoc winning the trenches in Hawk, 21-7 win over Navarro.

The Lake (2-1) knocked the slot-t out of Navarro in their convincing, 21-7 barometer win.

CL’s Defense was the mainstay against this 3 yards and a cloud of turf pellets offense and here are some numbers to put this in perspective.

Navarro ran the ball 46 times and averaged 3 yards per carry for 150 total yards of real estate.
Navarro converted 5 of 17 third down plays or 29% of the time.
Navarro converted 6-10 of their 4th down plays.
Navarro had one first down during that first stanza.
Navarro had 13 first quarter plays and 3 plays had these Panthers in punt formation.
Navarro had 32 of their 46 rushing plays failing to reach 4 yards.

“Every single week we just keep taking a step and credit to the kids….they keep showing up and working their tails off and the defense is keeping us in games and keeping us playing,” Head Coach Sam Parker admonished. “I could not be more proud of the kids and how far they have gone…you know it would have been easy after Wimberley to take a step back and we have not… and after our game with Crockett we really did not know where we are or where we stand….but this was a good win and that was a good football team.”

An opening Panther series was a 3 play and punt sequence to start this game the Lake’s offense was all business marching 47 yards taking 10 plays and a 7-0 lead that was never threatened for the rest of this outing.

Running Back Kaiden Lewis rushed for 35 of the 47 yards on this drive and finished with 121 yards for the night.

Rinse and Repeat: Another 3 play and punt had CL needing 78 yards for a score. This drive stalled in the end zone after a fumble and set back. The Hawks did perform 3 explosive plays (62 yards) that helped move Canyon Lake down the field but no score.

This next series had the Home Team use 4 plays before needing to punt and then Carter Williams returned the ball 37 yards that had CLHS setting up shop needing 37 yards to pay dirt.

It took QB Jace Wheeler 8 plays before finding Tight End Ryder Hopper for a 7 yard strike resulting in a Hawk, 14-0 lead to start the 2nd quarter.

Navarro would have one of their most successful series of downs using 16 plays but the, bend but don’t break defense, stalled these Panthers at the 34 yard line that would end this half.

A back-breaker drive to start the 2nd half was jump started when Gram Simpson took the rock 54 yards on the kick-off return. It would take CL just 5 plays going 37 yards after a Wheeler to Harris Gilliam catch and run sealing this contest after leaving Navarro needing 3 scores for a tie.

Not easy for a slot-t offense that specializes in milking the clock when the Panthers are churning out yards.

The difference was this Navarro squad was not churning and found them looking at a Mount Everest of a climb for a chance to comeback.

This was a dominating win regardless of those yardage totals below in that stat line. Canyon Lake came to Navarro with a goal of knocking the Slot-t out of Navarro and that mission was accomplished.

Canyon Lake will be back in action on Friday 20th when Veterans Memorial comes calling and a chance to see how many steps this Hawk crew have advanced as district arrives that next week.

Let’s Fly High Hawks!!
