Cross Country and Volleyball took the best of the week moniker as XC won the Boys and the Hawk Lades finished 2nd in that event.
Head XC Coach Chris San Miguel commented, “As a program we are running in the right direction. I am very proud of the work these young men and women put in.”
Coach San Miguel continued, “Varsity Girls got things started with Hannah Hammer taking 2nd with a time of 12:58 and Eva Zabarencu placing 3rd with a time of 13:10….Macie Paredez placed 14th with a time of 14:29, Macey Wunderlich placed 29th with a time of 15:29.”
“Varsity Boys won 1st as a team and were led by Tristan Schenk with a time of 16:50,” Coach San Miguel continued proudly, “Our team score was kept low by the following athletes: Jackson Alvarez who placed 11th with a time 18:32, Travis Singers had a PR (personal best) placing 12th with a time of 18:36, Clay Hugo (PR) placed 14th with a time of 18:57 and Marshal Gomez 20th with a time of 20:01.”
Canyon Lake’s Cross Country has not been (historically) a program that has excelled simple due to numbers but now this sport has enough runners to have good results for the Junior Varsity.
“Our JV Girls did an outstanding job and were one runner shy of having a team but were on track to take first,” Coach San Miguel continued. “Avery Rutherford took 1st place with a time of 15:33, Ayden Purdum placed 2nd with a time of 15:44, Reagan Wood placed 3rd with a time of 15:49 and Rylee Reinarz 8th place was a time of 17:42…special shout out for Rylee as she held off three other girls in a fight for the finish line.”
San Miguel closed, “Our JV Boys placed 2nd as a team and were led by Dionysio Villavicencio with a time of 18:37, Gibson Cover placed 4th with a time of 20:13, Aden Mclaren placed 5th with a time of 20:21, Jose Gonzales and Luke Clifton rounded out the team.”
Good Stuff for these Athletes.
Volleyball first four games were wins after sweeping Somerset last Tuesday and then having the varsity sweeping their first first day at the Seguin Tournament.
That sweep would prove to be a downfall on Saturday since that sweep placed Canyon Lake in the top bracket and with that promotion guaranteed much better schools to take down.
That proved to be too large of a hurdle to clear but this team took what they had and learned on both sides of that proverbial net as the tournament part of this year’s schedule came to a close. Now Volleyball will have more sub-varsity tilts as well as playing best our of 5 sets for a win in preparing for district.
Now Volleyball has 5 matches before playing at Fredericksburg the 27th of this month.
Water Polo still sports a winning record for the Boys while the Ladies have garnered two wins thus far.
Water Polo will begin district play on Thursday at Pieper and then will commence their last tournament in Round Rock on Friday/Saturday.
Hawk Tennis will play at Ingram for their next district outing and this will be a must win based on how difficult CL’s district is having some good schools and knowing which school would be a doable and must win scenario.
Great overall week and Let’s Do It Again and Let’s GO HAWKS!!
