Hawks Can’t Recapture Momentum in Loss to Billies, 30-20

Canyon Lake could not muster any offense or momentum during their 2nd half contest with Fredericksburg in losing, 30-20 after stating this game with a quick, 13-0 advantage.

The Lake did start this game well scoring two touchdowns on their two possessions but after an injury, that advantage, would become elusive.

The Billies helped after failing on a 4th down play at their 33 yard line which resulted in a one play score when QB Jace Wheeler found Harris Gilliam in the end, 7-0 lead.

Another defensive stop had CL responding with a 6 play drive for a 56 yard drive and quick, 13-0 lead after Wheeler found Gilliam for another score.

The Hawks still had a lead going into halftime, 20-17 with that last CL score being the result on another interception by defensive back Tristan Alexander who snagged the ball and a 40 yard return to the Billies 12 yard line. Three plays later The Lake reclaimed their lead when QB Ryder Hopper connected with James Garza, 20-17.

Self inflicted wounds would kill any momentum swings that had CL’s rushing attack being held to 43 yards for a little over one yard per carry. That rushing total was realized with some sacks contributing to this loss.

Canyon Lake will return home this next Friday when Somerset comes calling as homecoming week festivities begin.

Somerset is undefeated this season and this will be an important contest as each week becomes a more complete picture of where all these district schools end up for a play-off spot.
