A surgical masterpiece was wrought at the Hawk Nest after giving Somerset their first loss of this season while righting, The Lake’s Ship, for this season’s journey to the playoffs.

                       Let’s Go Lake!

Canyon Lake’s previous week was not a result that set well after squandering a lead and failing to finish with a win that night. Everything that went wrong last week turned out to be a polar opposite happening for this Homecoming Hawk Nation night resulting in a convincing win, 42-20.

You can guess that CL’s coaching staff had to purchase more light bulbs for a chance to get this year’s team to produce a different result! It was a get a Scalpel…..and let’s get to work attitude.

“We knew that we would have to change what we did based on who the quarterback was and with (Ryder) Hopper being the quarterback he can run exceptionally well and so we just used the offensive line that played fantastic…the defensive line and then special teams,” Coach Sam Parker said after asked bout how all 3 phases having good results for this win. “We played exactly the way we needed to play to win the game.”

                           Go Hawks!

Surgeon Parker then was complimentary of several players and started with Hopper, “I thought he played fantastic…we knew that it would not be a big passing game tonight…we just knew`there would be a lot of reads and a lot of making the right decisions and he did it and he played great!”

Surgeon Parker on Running Back James Parker, “He was unbelievable and he just keeps working and keeps working and I could not be more proud of him.”

On wearing down the defense, “The offensive line was wearing down that defense!”

With the Somerset Bulldogs going under the knife this was a procedure where Canyon Lake would uncover weaknesses that could lead to a win which would be keen in helping CL to finish this season as a playoff participant.

                    Let’s Go Hawks!!

These Bulldogs had closed the Hawk’s lead back to two touchdowns with still over 10 minutes remaining.

CLHS would then go to their Gelpi Retractor for a drive that has not happened in Hawk history. This was an 8 play drive using Garza for all 8 of their running plays covering 75 yards when Garza carved (using his scalpel) up these Bulldog’s defense from 8 yards out for a clinching touchdown, 42-20.

CL’s Weitlaner Offensive Lineman opening up holes along with Garza dishing out 3 explosive plays of 10 or more yards put this team on life-support with these 8 plays averaging 9.4 yards per tote.

Special Teams used their Adson Pickups when Punter Tristan Alexander (3 punts for 40.3 average) helped keep these Visitors needing to traverse more real estate allowing The Hawk Defense with enough of a shield to prevent a quick score or just keeping your opponent coming up empty.

Way to Stay in Shape Hawks!

Add Isiah Eureste with a slew of batted punts and an extra point try he blocked in this contest.

Gill Hagen on kickoffs and Mr. Automatic Jack Stracener for those extra point exclamations after each score. (39 out of 40)

Defensively, Canyon Lake used their Mosquito Clamps defense by doing those little things to complete this surgical operation by holding these Bulldogs two touchdowns less than their average.

CL’s defense was rebuilt by being a year older and maturing into a strength that has helped The Lake being in all but one contest this year.

From linebackers (Michael Anderson, Chris Brown, Eli Hammons, Eureste, Jaxon Ammons, Caleb Armstrong, Chris Taber and Rowdy Clancy) have been clamping holes and playing as a whole as a group.

Add the defensive lineman (Chandler Cross, Dalton Hodges, Matt Elson, Noah Chandler, Joseph Matos Padilla, Wyatt Roberts and Rylan Oppelt) surgically controlling the trenches continues to impress.

In this win CL’s defense had 9 pressures (based on a QB having to move in the pocket) that resulted in causing 6 incompletions, 2 sacks, and a pick six (interception).

Canyon Lake came out of this operation clean and will now prep for another chance going to Uvalde this week with a chance of solidifying a chance for winning district or a high seeded finish.

Way to Go Hawks & enjoy the Stats!!
