Hawk Basketball’s Bi-District is this Tuesday @ Canyon HS
Canyon Lake will make their first playoff since a 3-year stint from 2017-18-19 seasons. The Lake were one and done each of those seasons with their closest chance for an Area berth being a 2 point loss to Navarro in 2017 season.
“The kids are excited,” Head Coach Monte Cole relayed after being asked bout getting this post-season berth. “We are in new territory and we understand we will need to be focused and we are going up a level and we will need to go out and execute.”
On Coach Cole’s thoughts playing Lago Vista, “The shared first place with LBJ in their district and have a good team….they have a 6’8 player who can block shots and score but we have a lot of confidence after playing several teams that had similar height this year.”
The Lake will certainly need to be playing their ‘A’ game this Tuesday as CLHS finished this season with a 2-1 record with that last loss coming a against state ranked Davenport that was played down to the wire. CLake did not have Dalton Stromquist for that game which certainly could would have helped during that final minutes of the 4th quarter.
Canyon Lake has several Seniors that will use their experience and a team that will be full strength going into the Bi-District battle.
The game will be Broadcasted if you cannot make the short drive to New Braunfels’ Canyon High School. The tip-off will commence at 6:30pm for a chance to be the last Hawk sport to make the Area round with a win.
In the Hawk’s win over Bandera this contest was won during the second stanza after both teams opened the game tied at 16 all.
A 10 point advantage in that going into the 2nd half had The Lake continuing adding to that lead each quarter for a 20 point win, 62-42.
Carter Williams continued his season with another double-double as the leading scorer pouring in 18 points and finishing the night with 11 rebounds that was one less than Dalton Stromquist.
Jacob Holland cashed in shooting 50% from beyond the arc (4 for 8) finishing with 14 points.
The Hawks had 15 assists coupled with 11 steals while keeping their turnovers with a manageable 11 for this win.
A 20 point win that had 16 coming off the bench which will all be needed this Tuesday and a date for later this week with a win that will be pitted between the winner of the Gonzales and Pearsall.
Let’s GO LAKE!!
