Hawk’s Open Season by Spanking Devine, 11-0

Hawks gather after opening day spanking of Devine, 11-0. Go Lake!

Canyon Lake came out of their chute with some degree of authority by amassing 13 hits (3 doubles) and in that 1st inning leaving the bases loaded. It was a spanking with their only blemish coming in the field with two miscues and leaving the bases loaded with-out a run scored.

                       Let’s Go Hawks!

Other than that, this game, had Hawk fans enjoying another start to a season with a victory.

Their would not be a repeat of that opening inning, when The Lake started the 2nd frame with a ground-out and fly-out, then that chute would finally give way when CLHS had the next 8 batters reaching base resulting in a 5 run outcome.

CLake would scratch across a single run next frame when Bryce May singled with one out then stole second base—advancing on a ground out and then scoring on error after Carter Williams which would cause that error with a single that allowed May to score.

In that 4th inning, Canyon Lake, would have another rally with the first 7 batters reached base and that was capped off with a Ryan Rena double and another 5 run spot for 11 runs.

                    Let’s Go Hawks!!

Meanwhile Ryder Hopper had control of the mound allowing a first batter double who ended up stranded when Hopper retired 3 batters which he continued in the next inning.

A little hiccup in that 3rd inning had Devine’s first two batters reaching base before another shut down inning as Hopper used just 8 pitches to retire the side.

Carter Williams would be introduced for the final inning allowing not damage and a Hawk run-ruled shut-out, 11-0.

Canyon Lake has now won their 7th consecutive opening day game with that one loss coming in Coach Victor Escamilla’s first year at the helm to Llano which was a 3-2 set-back.

  Lake ‘Hawk’ Proud!

The Lake had a no-hitter against these Warhorses last season with those 2 runs coming via errors. This shut-out was CL’s 41st and Devine has a 1-6 all-time record against your Hawks.

Devine was a victim of The Lake’s first playoff run during the 2010 season winning the best of three series, 2-0.

Next up will be state ranked Sinton Thursday starting at Noon which should go a long way in having a game that can help a team realize goals needed for a brand spanking new season.

Let’s Go Hawks!
