The Lake’s Lady Soccer team presently has the longest running playoff streak compared to Blake’s other team sports. These Texan’s are averaging 4 goals per outing which gives an idea of how well this Hawk team is starting to jell.
“Our girls are undefeated so far in district and continue to improve each game,” Coach Stracener started. “We are 8-3-3 on the season and had a 2nd place finish in our first tournament of the season.”
Canyon Lake has strung together some impressive outings, “We had a big win against 6A Canyon High School right before we started district and just tied Wimberley who is a top ranked team in 4A soccer in the region,” Stracener blushed.
“We knew that Wimberley was going to be a tough game as they had just come off of a win against Davenport, one of the top ranked teams in the area. As far as our game plan, we had 3 things we were focusing on going into the Wimberley game.”
“The girls executed the plan very well. They did really well with 2 out of the 3. We struggled on the offensive side of things because Wimberley has a strong defense and put pressure on us much more quickly than any team we’ve seen this year. I am very pleased with how the girls battled and frustrated Wimberley,” Coach Stracener said realizing that the Texan’s have given up just 5 goals this season out of 15 contests. “We played great team defense and outworked a very good team.”
Things don’t get any easier as this district is always tough and represents good outings during the post-season.
“We will continue to build on the momentum from the positive outcome from last Friday going into this week where we finish up the first round of district against two more solid teams, Marble Falls Tuesday at home and Friday away at Davenport.”
Coach Stracener shared bout this year’s offense, “Girls with top offensive stats are Savanna Oberholtzer with 21 goals so far on the season. Then Rya Clark and Kylee Morrow, 2nd and 3rd in goals scored for the team.”
Canyon Lake is still a young outfit and look to raise the bar as this season continues to mature.
“Our 3 seniors on the team, make up 3 out of the 4 defenders in the back. Their experience and leadership has been outstanding for the team this year and kept us in some tough games. Sophomore goal keeper, Callie Dominguez (was a defender for us last year), has stepped up and made some great saves and continues to improve,” Starcener closed with hopes of keeping this district slate in good shape.
