HAWKS 2025 TRACK & FIELD 26-4A DISTRICT CHAMPIONS

HAWKS 2025 TRACK & FIELD 26-4A DISTRICT CHAMPIONS

Track is a fun sport that has one item that is hard to gauge…what is a team’s score as each event unfolds. Well The ReSporter would like to rectify that with a tale of the tape as this last day of District 26-4A transpired. This meet had a lot of drama that had a 3 team race after Field Event day would become a two team fight when CL reached a 10 point deficit after the 100 meter dash that had 3 Lady Hawks who scored in that race. Follow below to see how CLake made this a Hawk Championship.

Enjoy: (*) The point total for previous day is how team started when 4×100 relay began festivities.

Way to Stay in Shape Hawks!

Canyon Lake made up a 15 point deficit and took their first lead when Shana Cutrer and Ayren Lightfoot finished 5th & 6th in the 200 meter dash. Yes those two finishes might not have been what those two young ladies were wanting but those points are what pushed Canyon Lake to their first District Championship and first district championship for the school when Baseball won during the 2021 season.

An interesting note for CL’s final 4×400 relay event the Foursome was not the usual team and this group finished 5th which guaranteed the win.

“We decided to put in the future of Canyon Lake track with 3 freshmen and 1 junior pushing herself to get to that anchor spot,” Head Coach Sami Theurer recounts. “Our 4×400 relay did not qualify but did earn us the points to get past Fred and win our first ever district championship. We are excited to keep moving forward. Let’s Go HAWKS!!!”

Those 4 Ladies garnered 8 points which had Macie Paredez who was brought up from Junior Varsity (to run distance events) just for instances such as what was needed for this situation. Mia Zabarcencu, Embry Walker, and Kennedy Grindle who ended up scoring 21 meet points. Those other 3 Hawks each finished with 2 points each which proved to be enough for this Hawk Championship.

The future will be shining bright with a lot of talent from CL’s Junior Varsity ready to take the reins for more points next season. Emma Risien (High Jump) and Tessa Jones (100 Hurdles) each won their event for Junior Varsity.

The Lake will be taking these following athletes to Area Meet next week across the  ‘Devil’s Backbone’  on Thursday April 10th.
