Lake Ladies Successful Track Season
The ReSporter was able to get thoughts from Head Coach Sami Theurer on this just completed track season after having several events during State Meet last week.
This was a banner season with a strong group of incoming freshman added with a well rounded older group of tracksters. This led to CL’s first district championship for the Girls which now matches the Boy’s team from that 2017 season.
There was several Personal Bests posted this season after scoring in two of their State Meet Events with the 4×100 relay and Aubrey Avey finishing 5th in her 300 meter hurdle event.
Below has the personal best pertaining to the All-Time Top 10 Athletes and who is next best in those previous seasons.
Then The ReSporter’s Coaches Corner with Coach Theurer. Enjoy and Way to GO FAST LAKE!

COACHES CORNER
The ReSporter: Overall thoughts for this season?
Coach Theurer: “I am uber proud of how hard the girls worked and came together as a team to succeed. They pushed each other everyday at practice and held each other accountable.”
The ReSporter: How bout a shout out for your Seniors?
Coach Theurer: “Emorie Jones, Ayren Lightfoot and Hannah Hammer all will be missed, and all in different ways. Emorie is continuing her education and attending Ole Miss. Ayren plans to attend LSU and will walk-on their track team hoping to run for their program as a freshman. She has been on varsity all four years and made it to the state meet every year, either as part of a relay or in the open 400m. Hannah Hammer has been on the varsity team all four years and has been a leader for our Hawk team. She has been to the state meet three years, also on her own and as part of a relay team. She plans to attend school in Arizona to continue her education. Hannah does want to continue her running career as a college athlete.”
The ReSporter: What will the returning girls be doing to fine tune their craft?
Coach Theurer: “I think it goes without saying…we need to get faster and stronger. Our girls need to be able to compete in field events and then have the stamina and strength to compete and win in the running events as well.”
The ReSporter: Is there any way of improving the discus/shot events to help in adding points in Meets?
Coach Theurer: “Our goal for next season is to have a fully staffed track team, which would include one or two throwing coaches. I think this would make a huge difference. They will be able to recruit some of our athletes and put together a true training program so that our throwers can improve.”
The ReSporter: You had a lot of Freshman that contributed in major ways.
Coach Theurer: “Not only did the freshmen class contribute on the varsity team, our JV team excelled. This freshmen class of girls is talented and they love to win.”
The ReSporter: What are your plans for this group in keeping them engaged thru the offseason?
Coach Theurer: “I always tell the kids, you have to learn to love the grind if you want to win. Almost all of them play or compete in another sport, so getting them and keeping them in our athletic period during our season is always the goal.”
The ReSporter: What do you know bout MVMS athletes who will be incoming Freshman?
Coach Theurer: “I have been told that next years incoming freshmen are very athletic and super competitive. Both great qualities to have for all our programs. Looking forward to what they can do and how much they can push our upper classmen.”
The ReSporter: Final thoughts?
Coach Theurer: “This season really pushed our team to stay focused and to continue to train. The State Meet was a huge challenge for the girls (to keep showing up and trying to get better) to be consistent on training. And then there is the realization that everyone at the State Meet is fast and strong. We need to train harder and smarter.”
