Gold Volleyball Start Season, 3-1 After Sweep of Akins Eagles
Hawk Volleyball Sub-Varsity has shown a lot of athletes that have improved with another night of a sweep over on this night Akins school.
CL’s Gold team finished ahead of Akins JV, 25-15 & 25-12 as they run their record to 3-1 this season.
On what was the goal going into this game, Gold Coach Kara Barnes opined, “Our goal going into the game against Akins was to control what we can control and the court. We did a good job serving tough, keeping our energy high, and executing on our offense.”
A passing grade for this Gold team that amassed 7 aces and an eventual enough momentum for this sweep.
In that first set, The Lake, did not start strong as the Eagles were able to secure a 4 point start leading to a 5-3 lead.
That lead was helped with 11 unforced errors which by doing the math gave Akins 73% of their points in this set.
The Lake got things going when Khloe Petty started her serve and quickly gave CL a lead they would not lose with an ace and kill by Alleigh Jones.
Libero Liv Schapp quarterbacked the team to the end especially after CL’s slow start, “Liv has been an excellent leader on the court,” Coach Barnes said. “She’s consistently communicating with her teammates and working hard to keep plays alive.”
It was on Haley Mechler’s serves that ended this first set when she delivered two aces and a capping kill by Cameron Parker.
In the 2nd set The Gold team played a much cleaner set with only 3 unforced errors which help keep the pressure on Akins and eventual 13 point loss, 25-12.
Cameron Parker started this set serving a 4 point rally that had Mechler with 3 kills that put this set away early.
“Haley (Mechler) has also been a vital part of our offense,” Coach heaped praise. “Her vertical ability allows her to finish points effectively, especially during extended rallies.”
Addison Carrara came off the bench to serve an 8 point rally which would give your Hawks all the separation needed.
Mechler had two more kills during this episode along with a Leighton Hill kill.
Game-Set-Match with a their next battle being at San Antonio Cole this Friday.
