The Canyon Lake Hawks’ basketball recent struggles received a respite after starting their Hays Tournament with two wins.
The Lake’s record was 1-8 with most of those losses coming when an illness struck during their Christmas Tourney in Lampasas.
Having a healthy team led to this two game stretch as CLHS was able to succumb their last win against Graham needing to erase a 10 point deficit with 6:17 left on a 4th quarter clock down, 44-34.
CLake answered with an all out defensive effort which led to a Bobby Torres 7 point response (2 free throws~3 pointer~2 assists) barrage which saw Torres’ assist to Anthony Hockman ending the 3rd quarter.
The Lake got the score down to a 3 points, 44-41 when Graham got a fast break two pointer which would turn out to be their last points at the 2:42 mark.

Another combo assist to bucket when Phoenix Fuentes found Cole Dees which brought this game down to a one point, 46-45 for these Steers.
Fuentes and Dees combined for 9 assists which would have Dees curtain call when he had his twisting dance move turn into the paint while finding a wide open Hockman for that winning bucket and one point win, 47-46.
The Lake’s first win on this day was a much different style that had The Lake with a convincing, 73-25 win over Yorktown.
This win had 3 Hawks scoring double digits, Fuentes (13), Reese Pipkin (14), Torres (14) and every Hawk but one with a rebound…. this contes produced another double digit game with 18 assists and 16 steals.
The Lake had another 4th quarter awakening scoring 25 points which also produced CL’s best game this season beyond the arc with 8 makes.
Canyon Lake thus far has outscored their competition, 100 points (298-198) during those last 8 minutes.
The Lake will continue their last tourney for this season with a battle against Austin Travis with tip-off at 1:00pm this Tuesday at Barton Middle School in Kyle, Texas.
