Let’s Go Lake Great Win Over The Pass

Canyon Lake came back from a 20 point deficit by scoring 51 second half points in a 2 point win over Aransas Pass, 71-70.

It was an offensive rebound put back for Anthony Hockman that sealed the deal with less than a second that sealed the deal.

The Lake did start this contest storming to a, 13-6 first quarter advantage.

The Pass would take over with a 24 point 2nd quarter and outscored The Lake, 17 points and a 12 point advantage to end the first half.

“We made a lot of mistakes early versus AP (Aransas Pass).” Head Coach Monte Cole recapped. “Unforced turnovers, missed layups, mission open guys with our passing…but the kids were resilient and kept battling to give themselves a chance and then guys made plays at the end to win.”

      Let’s Go Hawks Great Comeback!

Canyon Lake will go into Saturday’s against Gainesville with a 3-1 record, “This is a great tournament for us because we’re identifying the little things we have to do a lot better and execute more consistently”….on playing Gainesville, “They’re big and good. A good test for us.”

Aransas Pass increased their halftime advantage to a 20 points (51-31) with 1:43 remaining for that 3rd stanza, but this Hawk team would turn on a firehose scoring 40 points in a 9:43 time frame.

CL had 4 players reach double digit scoring with Cole Dees (14 pts) leading and being joined with Phoenix Fuentes (13), Josh Rowe (12), and Gavin Cano (10).

                     Way to GO LAKE!

CL got contributions from a bench that pitched in 26 points in this improbable comeback.

That last quarter was a classic being down, 51-41 to start and then Fuentes with a steal (20 steals forced by CL’s defense) cut AP’s lead to single digits, 51-43.

That back and force kept up with The Lake not able to below 7 points after a Dees three pointer with 6:42 left, 53-46.

The Pass regained that 10 point advantage with under 6 minutes, 60-50.

In fact, CLHS cut the lead to 7 again with an old fashion 3 pointer for Fuentes before quick 4 points giving the Home Team an 11 point lead, 64-53 with 3:24 remaining.

With half the quarter in the books, The Lake, was still in trouble down 11 points.

CLake would score the next 7 points and finish this game with a nail biter victory.

                  Way to Go Hawk Basketball.

As Easy as ABC for a Hawk Team that ran their record to 7-1 with this win.

Cano came up with a huge game dishing up a good plate of grub with 6 assists and was nails after Fuentes had to sit with foul trouble earlier.

Scoring more points in each of CL’s last two quarters than these Hawks scored in that first half would put a smile on the Hawk Nation’s face.

Way to GO LAKE!
