Canyon Lake matched their first 15 games last year with an, 11-3-1 record and now this Hawk team can hopefully finish with a better second half after last year’s squad finished, 14-10.

This past week, The Lake finished their Comal Clash contests sporting a, 3-1-1 record based on having a deeper pitching staff than their competition.

This year’s team has amassed a, 2.70 earned run average (era) and presently show 4 different pitcher’s with 2 wins. The mayo is more evenly spread across this bread than last year’s edition that had Carter Williams getting the rock as many times possible.

This has Head Coach Victor Escamilla working on all his chess moves before district gets going in two weeks against Wimberley.

Still way too many base on balls and errors that could derail district contests as CL’s hitting usually starts a slight decline when league contest get going. So those first two of the baseball trinity will need to diminish playing those district games.

                              Go Lake!

“Our pitching part has become clearer, “Coach Escamilla said in response to his assessment of where the team is at this time. “Offensively I think we are very streaky individually and we want to have some of that consistency but as we put more games together things are becoming clearer. We also need those guys who are come in when we have a different pitcher… and we need to have an extra outfielder or extra middle fielder or whatever it may be and those things are cleaning up a bit.”

When asked bout how well the catching has been with Wayen Slania-Wertz and Archer Miller behind the plate, “We’re fortunate to have those two…they are young and they’ve got a lot of upside and we are  excited to have both of them.”

                          Go Hawks!

Hayes Holladay is working on a streak of reaching base 9 games in a row and has reached base in all but one contest this season while Archer Miller had his  5 game hitting streak halted in CLake’s final game with San Antonio Wagner.

Other Notes:
Gram Simpson has 64 runs for his career and that has him ranked 5th on that All-Time list…he needs 5 more to be placed 3rd behind Hunter Anderson and Carter Williams who each reached 91 runs scored during their careers.

Ryan Rena (31) is 11 rbi’s from breaking into Top 10 status with RBI’s.

Simpson ranks 3rd in walks behind Tyler Pauly and Carter Williams who each reside with 62 base on balls. Rena is 10th on that same list with 38 walks.

Way to make some Good Hits!

Stolen bases has Simpson (17) at 9th needing 13 more to take the lead over Daniel Camarillo who last played during the 2012 season. Bryce May (12) and Holladay (9) could reach top ten with Chase Anderson’s 16 stolen bases who is 10th on that list.

Rena needs one more double to tie Logan Felch’s 14 and Waylen Slania-Wertz (10) still has 4 more but being a Sophomore could have his sights on reaching 22 that Carter Williams has that tops that list.

And finally, Simpson needs 5 and Lucas Schexnayder  8 to take the lead in that bruising stat called, Hit-By-Pitch, held by now an EMT Tanner Schultz’s (21)…that makes a lot of sense now based on his trade.

The Lake will use this week playing three contests going to Marion this Monday with a Noon first pitch and then will welcome La Vernia to the Hawk Nest Tuesday starting at 2:30pm.

A road game with Antonian Prep on Wednesday starting at 1:00pm with finish this week’s action.

Let’s GO LAKE!
