Way to be Handy Hawk Track & Field. Good Luck in Area Meet!

The Lake Boy’s Track & Field qualified 11 for their Area Meet and matched that with 11 different events for a sport that had not been scoring much in previous years.

“I’m really proud of what our kids did at the District meet,” Head Track Coach Brad Manning said. “We were able to check off several goals we set even before the start of the season, and they earned it.”

This season showed a team that continued to make a mark while also competing at a much higher level as this year matured.

Coach Manning continued with his assessment, “When I got here about 20 months ago, we knew exactly where the boys program stood and the kind of work it was going to take to build it into something competitive.”

                  Let’s GO Fast LAKE!

“By this time last year, we felt like we were about a year away from being able to walk into a District meet and truly contend especially in a 4A district as deep as ours,” Manning maned up.
“The question the whole time was “if.” If our kids would buy in. If they would commit to the work it was going to ultimately take. If they would trust what we are trying to build. This past week, they answered that.”

Track can have coaches, that many times, need a PHD in Rocket s
Science when trying to maximize points while moving athletes around for 17 different events for getting results for their team.

“Our staff made some key decisions with events, we tapered the right way, and the kids showed up and competed,” Coach Manning remembered. “Across the board— Lake Boy’s Track and Field—we now have several athletes moving on to the Area meet, and that says a lot about the direction of the program. It’s been a while since that’s been the case, and our kids have taken a lot of pride in changing that.”

                   Go Hawks!

Coach Manning finished, “Now the focus shifts. We’re not trying to do more—we’re trying to stay sharp and continue to peak at the right time. District 25-4A is going to bring a high level of competition, and you have to reallly want to run well this time of year. Our kids are excited, and they’re preparing to go out there and compete at an even higher level.”

Canyon Lake’s 4×100 meter relay exemplifies what is possible as they went to the top of that All-Time Lake list with a time that had not been bested since 2012 when Zach Henshaw, Doug Hubnik, Eduardo Covarrubias and Daniel Camarillo was perched at the top with a 43.73 mark.

Joseph Matos, Peyton King, Kobe Halverson and Tristan Alexander lowered that time with a 43.05 result.

The ReSporter will release another article before Wednesday with a synopsis of times of District 25-4A Athletes who will be the competition for Area Meet at Lago Vista.

Coach Manning wasn’t finished, “We’re looking forward to Wednesday.”
