               Go Lake Beat Everyone!

Canyon Lake has had 3 shut-outs this season and the third pitched game by Hayes Holladay was certainly a charm.

The Lake needed this win after starting their District 26-4A campaign on the short end looking at an, 0-4 start if Hayes would not have canceled his Holladay.

“LC (Long Creek) could not handle his fast pace,” Head Coach Victor Escamilla exclaimed. “He threw 70% strikes. We needed a big game from him and he delivered.”

This gem started in that first inning as the Lake had allowed 11 total runs at start of each district contest which had CLake starting in a hole to climb out of in those first 3 losses.

               Congrats Lake Baseball.

Holladay threw 8 pitches to get those first three outs which would be the precursor
For the rest of this outing.

Catcher Arthur Miller barely had time to set up before catching a pitch as this fast pace left the Dragons without any ‘Fire’ power accumulating two singles and two free passes for the evening.

Add 13 strikeouts to this affair which also helped in keeping The Lake with only one error. You would have to go back 6 games since Canyon Lake had that type of defensive game.

               Way to Go Lake Baseball.

All of Long Creeks hits happened in the 2nd frame…but Holladay would strike out the the side taking any hope of advancing past second base in this white-wash.

Those two base-on-balls were stranded on first base in those two innings….one with a double play and striking out the last two batters in the bottom of the 5th inning.

In the 6th Inning a first batter two bag error was stranded after Holladay’s needing 15 pitches in striking out the side. That baserunner did advance to 3rd on a wild pitch which would be the low point for Holladay’s Holladay pitching performance.

Lucas Schexnayder and Bryce May would each score two runs with two of the Hawks 4 hits. It was the bottom of the line-up coming through as Ryan Rena also had a hit and rbi as all three players stole a base and it would be May scoring CL’s final run stealing home in the top of the 3rd inning.

The Lake had 5 steals and with two hit batters producing 11 base runners in this battle.

Gram Simpson tied Tanner Schultz with 21 hit-by-pitches and will look to be black & blue with his record breaking 22nd sometime later this season.

This win goes a long way in turning the tide as being swept twice off the bat (pardon the pun) could have had The Lake on the outside looking in.

Canyon Lake will welcome Fredericksburg next Tuesday for their next two-game series with some needed momentum.

Way to GO LAKE!
