Defensive End Ancel Morel
Canyon Lake intra squad scrimmage Saturday morning was a good chance to see this year’s edition in action.
The Hawks will have a lot of experience and the ReSporter spent some time with Defensive End Ancel Morel after practice.
“This was a good day,” Morel started. “We have a lot of new guys and they look strong and have confidence.”
CLHS will be spending the next couple of weeks to see how the team will mesh.
“The younger guys are getting a lot of attention,” Morel continued. “So we are ahead of where we were this time last year.”
Morel also commented on what some of his goals for this upcoming week, “I want to get in better shape and to get good enough in the scrimmage against Dripping Springs.
The Hawks will be playing next Saturday at Canyon Lake, with the start time 8:30am.
Canyon Lake had a couple of games in the playoffs that had two different outcomes. One was a hold on victory. The Hawks zoomed to a lead over Burnet and held on for a 27-20 victory.
Then the Hawks had the same jack rabbit start against Somerset, but the outcome was much different as the tortoise came across the finish line first. Why?
“My main goal this season is to ‘finish’,” as Morel gave the answer to the previous question. “We need to finish everything from the fourth quarter to the season.”
Morel had a decent year last season as he finished with 25 tackles last season in nine games which also included one sack.
“We have more depth and will be able to sub in more…we consider everybody as a starter,” Morel finished. “I think we have a good chance to shut-out a team this year.”
Morel just made Coach Charlie Drum, the defensive coordinator very happy.
