MV Hawks 7A Squad, Squashes Texans, 16-0
Braden Jowers and Shawn Bell along with their teammates dominated Wimberley in their first win
Mountain Valley A squad pitched a shut-out over Wimberley as the Hawks started their season (1-0) winning, 16-0.
Defense was in full gear as the Hawks kept the Texans with just 2 first downs and 47 total yards for the game.
Mountain Valley had the ball twice in that first half but on those two drives they left Wimberley with just 3 plays and a punt.
The Hawks then capitalized on their second time with the ball when they drove 73 yards on 12 plays which drained the clock with a touchdown pass with no time left on the clock.
That score was a razzle-dazzle play as Nate Weiskopf took the ball and found Shawn Bell open for the first score of the game and year.
It would also prove to be the only score needed by Mountain Valley as they pitched a shut-out in dominating both lines in the trenches.
Running Back Braden Jowers rushed for 105 yards in leading the good guys in his first game.
“We got our yardage and this was a good game,” Jowers said. “We worked alright and we won and gave everything we had.”
Weiskopf and Ryan Rivali were also lethal in this game rushing for 51 and 45 yards respectfully.
Wimberley had the ball for just 4 plays in the first half having used just 2:20 of offense going into the last half in the third quarter.
The Texans would get just 18 plays on offense while Mountain Valley doubled that total in dominating Wimberley.
The Hawks did not let the Texans have any breathing room as Shawn Bell lit up a Texan on one of many plays dominated by Mountain Valley.
“I just cleared my head and focused,” Bell rang. “I just hit low and tried to strip the ball….we just tried to give everything on the field and it feels pretty good that we got the win and now we will take it into our next game…this will get us motivated.”
Mountain Valley scored with 2 minutes left in the game when Weiskopf ran it in from 3 yards and all but closing the curtains on this one act play.
All three backs got yardage on that drive to seal the deal with Wimberley.
