CL Hawks Volleyball Bracket Ornaments

Canyon Lake's Student Body is all in for this year's Volleyball Team

Canyon Lake’s Student Body is all in for this year’s Volleyball Team

Assessing the field after the first round of games as Canyon Lake prepares for Sealy this Friday at Cedar Creek High School with a 6:00pm start.

Things we know? A repeat from last year’s Area game as Sealy met Canyon Lake and swept the Hawks, 3-0.

But that will not mean the same result this season. In that game last season, Sealy was the top seed after winning their district while CL tied with Navarro and was awarded the second seed to start their bracket play.

So, yes, these are the same schools but they have switched seeding positions.

Sealy lost their one game tilt with Columbus after both schools finished their district tied with one loss.

That Tiger loss now has them primed for another chance of sending the Hawks home early. Sealy is a second seed but winning your district could also leave you with an idea of a team that is certainly capable of making their move during the, win or go home time of year.

                          Common Opponents
               Hawks Tigers
                2-0 Giddings 2-0
                3-2 La Grange 1-3

There is really not that much you can deduce with only two games for comparing as Sealy beat Giddings three times and lost to La Grange twice.

Rankings can be good for fans to look at but the big picture still will be for those teams to play their games.

You can put 4 or 5 states inside the Texas border, so having a state this large can give you an idea of where a team is ranked being fool’s gold.

How would you know how good a school in El Paso would be versus a team from the Rio Grande Valley?

In seeing teams in those rankings from all over the State, the most common measuring stick would be those common opponents to be able to assess how strong a team might be.

Canyon Lake does have some strong wins in their basket but those games will have several variables into how or what happened on any given contest that would skew those rankings.

The Hawks were beaten by Peaster in Wimberley the first week of games but who knew that Outside Hitter Addison Farley was injured during the warm-ups and could not play in that game.

Granted, Peaster was good as their No. 1 ranking and having one loss for the year will tell you, but who would know the actual outcome of that game if CL would have been at full strength.

One thing is for certain, as these teams start to eliminate each other for the next 3 weeks you can bet each school will be playing at a different level and wanting more victories for that same goal as your Hawks!

So with much trepidation, The ReSporter will share the Rankings for 4A schools according to the Texas Girls Coaches Association.

Be sure to use a hefty dosage of salt in partaking during meal time. As you will also see from which region these schools are located.

The ReSporter also highlighted in Red the teams that have already been eliminated from the dance.
