Canyon Lake won their first home game over Bandera on Tuesday night, 49-32.

“It was nice to get a win on our first home game,” Head Coach Mary Beth Gallagher said. “We had great fan support and the atmosphere was fun and exciting…we played well as a team and had a good solid defensive effort.”

The Hawks had two players reach double figures in scoring, as Sarah Russell chipped in 11 points while Emma Gray had a 21 point game coupled with 16 rebounds.

Gray did everything but shoot a 3 pointer in this win as she also had a team high 8 assists and 2 blocks.

Those 8 assists would usually be a team total or more on many nights as Gray dominated the inside with her play on both ends of the floor.

“Emma (Gray) had an amazing night as she finished just two assists short of a triple double,” Coach Gallagher said as a math teacher. “We fed as a team off of her aggressive play the whole night.”

CL started this game on fire by ending the first quarter with a 10 point lead, 16-6 as the Hawks out totaled the Bulldogs in every quarter as they also finished this night with their most points this season.

Sarah Schneider helped in that inside game with 6 points on 3 of 4 shooting and pulling down 6 rebounds.

“Sarah Schneider and Sarah Russell also played very well,” Gallagher heaped praise. “Russell provided an outside shooting threat what we have been missing for a while and Schneider did an awesome job of running the floor in transition.”

Russell had her long shot on after making 3 in helping give Canyon Lake a good one-two punch and another win in bringing their record up to 2-3.

Canyon Lake looks to continue to settle in on this year’s games as they will be host for the Canyon Lake Tournament this weekend.

“We look forward to this weekends tournament and know that we need to continue to improve our overall game,” Coach Gallagher closed.
