Good-Bye 2015 & Hello 2016

Hawks Celebrate in one of their 33 Victories this season.

The Fall Season of 2015 had an historic moment as the CL Volleyball team pulled off a District Championship which was the first for the Hawk Nation.

If you were looking at teams for Canyon Lake and projecting the first team to get to that feat, then Volleyball would have been near the bottom as the Hawk District has been controlled by Wimberley and seeing a team upend their streak of District Championships would have been a hard sell.

Yes, Wimberley did not have a vintage year but CL’s Volleyball team would also reach the highest State Ranking for any sport when they topped out at No. 7 during this season.

Volleyball was able to achieve their most wins (33) and their losses (09) did not reach the double digit bar.

Where the Hawk Volleyball team puts their stamp is how they perform in the classroom.

This group of girls has been performing at their best with the following players grades.

Seniors Grade Ave. Juniors Grade Ave.
Emma Gray 98 Landry Hollums 96
Hannah Wunderlich 97 Danielle Bustamante 94
Alexis Robinson 95 Regan Mickey 94
Bailey Drum 94 Sam York 93
 Addison Farley 93
 Ashlyn Hubertus 92
 Jessica Moore 92

                       Sophomores Grade Ave.
                       Faith Hasness 97
                       Amber Voigt 92

This list has everyone on the varsity roster and you can see that this team is winning where it counts the most.

Canyon Lake’s football team had a young team and finished 4th in district play which qualified this group of boy’s for the playoffs.

The Hawks can boast that they are the last team that dealt Waco La Vega a loss as CL was beaten in the first round this campaign to the La Vega team which was a rematch from the previous year in which Canyon Lake won.

Waco La Vega finished this year as an undefeated 4A Division 1 Champion.

Canyon Lake will keep stockpiling talented players for this coming season and will hope for better results record and playoff wise.

Canyon Lake Boy’s Cross Country also qualified for their 2nd Region Meet where these athletes all upped their game with better times than the previous year.

Teams that will start this 2016 season will have some more chances of raising their level of play compared to previous Hawk clubs.

Both Soccer teams will look to get a leg up as last year the girl’s and boy’s teams had some record offenses and with more young players coming up this could be a chance for some fun games and season.

Softball will also have a good chance of breaking their playoff drought when they take the field with some solid pitching and having to replace just two Seniors off of last year’s season.

Baseball will have a young team again and might still be a couple of years away from making headway but that is why they play the games as Coach Dunavant will get all he can from this group of players.

Track and Field looks to have a good chance of improving and making a run (pardon the pun) for a district crown for the boys.

The Girls Track team will add depth and hopefully improve on their finish from last year.

Track & Field can make a legitimate run but what usually becomes a missing link is in keeping the Seniors focused as this becomes a major hurdle with those young students seeing themselves crossing a stage in their future.

Other teams don’t seem to suffer like the Hawks have in past years with their Seniors and conquering that dilemma is key for these two track teams.

Congrats to all the students and congratulations to the Hawk’s first Champions in Volleyball.

Go Hawks!!
