Lady Hawks Still Looking for Signature Win, Lose to Navarro, 49-40

Sarah Russell scores 17 points as Canyon Lake looks for that elusive win

Canyon Lake continues to knock on the door but just could not break it down in another close loss to Navarro, 49-40.

“We just were not in sync tonight,” Head Coach Mary Beth Gallagher said. “We played hard, but our defense was not clicking and we struggled to get into rhythm.”

The Hawks continue to improve as Senior Emma Gray rehabs for another shot of playing in the final contests as CL looks to find an open door.

On this night Sarah Russell was on with 5 shots from beyond the arc and 17 points as Sophomore energizer Alexa Ramos found her teammate open on her drives to the basket.

In fact, Ramos was perfect from the floor finishing with 9 points but foul trouble would spell her’s and Canyon Lake’s doom on this night.

“Sarah had a great game offensively and provides much needed scoring,” Coach Gallagher heaped praise. “We will regroup and tweak a few things and try to put a plan together for Cuero.”

The Hawks are young and with each foul, the game would allow the Panthers to get separation in that all important final stanza.

CL continues to improve as the Hawks finished with a very manageable 14 turnovers and helped their cause with 13 steals.

Canyon Lake was down just 2 points going into the fourth quarter but fouls did not allow the Hawks a chance to continue their quest for that important elevating win.

Russell has now scored 54 points since Gray has been out of action and numbers by many of the other Hawks will give this team a chance to show what is possible when they are playing with a full deck.

Now a date with Cuero this Tuesday and then Wimberley comes to town for another chance of making a mark.
