Softball’s are Not Soft as Hawks Sweep first day of Blanco Tourney
Canyon Lake had a banner day in their Blanco Tourney as the Hawks scored 39 runs in their run-a-way games to start with 3 wins.
The Hawks pounded the ‘soft’Ball again on Thursday in Johnson City and now officials will have to dispose of those balls since those Softballs were actually ‘Soft’ after the Hawks pounded them.
Put in perspective, CL only had one inning in those 3 contests where there was a 0 used after their 3 outs.
Having 40 hits in those three games will give you an idea of how on fire these Hawks were on this break out day.
Lead off batter, Carly Dubois, was 11 for 11 for the day. Take a look at this line score for this hitter. If you go back to her Fredericksburg game then you have a batter that has 14 hits in her last 15 at bats.

Dubois also used one of her hits for an inside the park home-run to go along with her 6 stolen bases for the day.
The ReSporter will go out on a limb and say that is a record for Hawk hitters.
How about trumping another Hawk player. Senior, Alexis Robinson, she now has the following firsts with her bat.
runs 108 next Hawk Kirsten Jones 81 hits 122 next Kelsey Ahrens 109 rbi’s 85 next Kelsey Ahrens 76 doubles 26 next Kelsey Ahrens 24 Brianna Young Missy Romero triples 13 next Missy Romero 9 home runs 10 next Kelsey Ahrens 6
On this day Canyon Lake was in a class by themselves as they beat their opponents with a killer instinct. That will go a long way for a team that has struggled when district gets going.
The Hawks need to get better with their glove, with 7 errors for the day and in playing tougher competition that stat will not help in putting away teams.
In their game with Copperas Cove, CL’s 5 errors kept an inning alive and put pitcher Maggie Banks in a situation where she needed to get 8 outs as all of those errors occurred in the same inning.
But on a day where hits were coming like bats out of a cave, these errors would not stop the bat train for a team that is now batting .428 and a pitching staff with an era of 2.18.
Kirsten Jones has a 12 game hitting streak that ties Lauren Mentzer’s streak earlier this year.

CL can also put 3 pitchers in the circle for getting wins and that will help as this season gets into district play.
Banks was in the circle in the win over Copperas Cove and had her 3rd win this year while throwing a good drop ball.
Those type of pitches will give your defense a lot of action which for this game proved to be Banks downfall.
In Copperas Cove’s 3 run inning, the Bulldawgs had 3 batters reach base due to an error on a Hawk fielder. So, Banks best pitch was what did the damage in allowing the opposition to score.
Canyon Lake will need to improve on this aspect of their game if they would like to realize the playoffs. Those 3 errors will give the Hawk pitchers having to face three more batters and eventually be a reason for a close loss against a more stout school.
Banks is also a good 3rd baseman and this year had been hitting the ball well but just right at the defense. On this 3 game day, Banks broke out from that drought with 3 hits and having another player with the potential of succeeding at the plate that will add to another log the Hawks can throw on a fire.
On replacing Kelsey Ahrens at third base, Banks said, “I feel a little pressure because she was such a good player.”
“We have improved from the beginning of the season to where we are today,” Banks deposited. “If we continue to work hard then we will take district and that is our goal.”
The Hawks have now gone 10 games without a loss and will look to increase that nugget on Saturday.
Canyon Lake continues to show improvement in several areas as this team will now play in the winners bracket this Saturday in Johnson City.
Congrats and Go Hawks!!
