Hawks Can’t Dig Out of Hole in Loss to Navarro, 17-13

Canyon Lake’s Softball team showed signs of life but the Hawks still could not dig out of their hole in loss to Navarro, 17-13.

“We put ourselves in a hole,” Head Coach John Gallagher stated. “We fought back and this team never gives up and I am really proud of what the team did….we started tagging the ball pretty well.”

That last comment from Coach Gallagher will give you an indication of the slump this team has been in since district play started over a month ago.

The 13 runs was more than adding up the previous 8 games and getting into double digit hits has not been seen since their last win in Johnson City against Copperas Cove.

But, when you put the team to the test with the Big 3 that needs to be humming (pitching/hitting/fielding), then you can see by the 17 runs given up that pitching was not on as well as still committing way to many errors.

That hole that was dug had the Panthers with a 12-1 lead going into the bottom of the 3rd inning.

The Hawks would outscore Navarro, 12-5 to finish the game but that hole did not allow CL to see the light of day and another loss.

There were some bright spots as Maggie Banks had two quality hits while Kirsten Jones continues to play her best softball this season.

Alexis Robinson and Bailey Bryan was another duo that started swinging a potent bat.

But that will all pale in comparison to Carly Dubois who took on her ‘mighty Casey’ persona when coming to bat in the 7th inning.

Dubois hit a screamer over the power alley in left center field and the fastest Hawk just had to jog to score on this go round.

“It was amazing,” Dubios recounted after being asked what she was thinking as the ball went over the fence. “This is one in a lifetime feeling.”

“The last time I have had a feeling like this was when I caught my first ball in centerfield as a freshman,” Dubois said while thinking back.

That catch was what solidified this young lady as never playing another position while at Canyon Lake as she has speed to burn and that catch had Dubios diving for the ball with nothing but dirt over her uniform.

“I was talking with God the other day and asked about hitting a home run,” Dubois said reverently. “He proved Himself.”

This was Dubois 2nd homer but that first dinger had to be accomplished by skirting around the infield for the ‘inside the park’ variety.

Yes, God has a way of answering Prayers but sometimes you have to wait for that answer and so this Prayer came through with many more mountains to climb in the future.

Congrats Dubois and Go Hawks!!

** The ReSporter would also like to Thank Our God for having Lacey Gallagher back in school after a scary couple of weeks in the Hospital.

We are glad you are back to giving your parents a hard time, now get better!!!
