Hawks Forget Lines in One Act Play but Beat Kerrville for Encore
Canyon Lake had a two act play on their final day of Volleyball in the NEISD Tournament finishing with a win after two losses.
The Hawks started Saturday with a decent and competitive loss to 6A SA Madison losing 1-2.
Then a turnaround game with East Bernard with no time to rest and the Brahmas took advantage with a 2 set sweep.
That last set was a scorcher as the Hawks only mustered mayonnaise with 5 total points making for a sloppy sandwich and an upset stomach.
“Let’s just say we had a heart to heart discussion,” Head Coach Kim Paisley said eloquently. “We had some tactics for Tivy and it did great and we were fired up to play them (Kerrville).
On how the Hawks performed in their game with East Bernard, “We were exhausted… mentally and physically tired but there was no excuse for being tired on how bad we played.”
This act was all about sorrow as CL was not able to make anyone laugh and carried out this play with heads dropping as Canyon Lake was leaving the court.
Then after an hour intermission, the Hawks, started their next act with splendor as CL took the court in a victorious style, rushing to a 12 point lead, 17-5 after Faith Hasness served.
The laughs would keep on happening throughout the set as the Hawks literally rebounded with a 25-18 victory over a team that had won the Wimberley Tournament last week.
But the Hawks were not finished with their play as this resilient team decided to have two acts in one set as this second stanza had CL starting in a hole, 2-11 as Tivy was out to get this game tied.
Canyon Lake would take off those sorrow faces and preceded to outscore Kerrville, 23-10 to beat the curtain fall which ended an eventful tournament with a little momentum.
“We were not talking and communicating,” Libero Amber Voigt said. “We did not start off strong but we did better with our win because our chemistry and flow was better….we will be ok.”
Voigt was commenting on the ups and downs that plagued the Hawks with Saturday’s play.
Hanna White also had the same conclusion, “We just stopped talking and just gave up….but we wanted it (the next game with Kerrville) and started fighting for it and we had enough.”
The Hawks finished 3-3 for the two day tournament and that last win gave this team a more favorable chance of showing some rise with games in Poth, Blanco, and San Marcos this coming week of play.
Canyon Lake will want to be more consistent and start working on a One Act Play and forget those Plays that have more lines.
Go Hawks!!
