CLJV Win 3rd Game of Season in Beating Giddings, 38-20
Canyon Lake’s Junior Varsity scoots to 3-0 record after scoring 32 unanswered points and leaving Giddings with a, 38-20 win.
The Hawks had some engine trouble in starting this game but once that motor was cleaned, Canyon Lake was unstoppable. Giddings was outrunning the flying Hawks 20-06 before the CL figured out they could outfly a running Buffalo.
Rolando Maronge had an interception (or hand off from the Buffalo receiver) while Giddings was holding onto a, 20-18 lead to start the second half. Maronge’s runback was finally stopped on the Hawk’s 7 yard line and new life to start this second half.
Connor Rose would have the honors on the next play from 7 yards out and a Hawk 24-20 lead that would never be
threatened again.
Good defense stopped the Buffaloes after a 19 yard drive deep in Gidding’s territory and CL had the ball on their own 31 yard line.
Enter Maronge and 62 yards later the Hawks would lead by 10 points as the Canyon Lake’s offense was starting to jell.
Once again the Hawk’s depth is superior with most schools and a ragged Giddings team just could not keep up with the Hawks as the game continued.
A four play and punt would be Giddings answer on their next two possessions when Rose would be the recipient of a 44 yard run down to the 6 yard line and Landry Moore took care of the rest as the 4th quarter was just getting started.
QB Jacob Neel ran the extra point in for an 18 point lead and eventual final score, 38-20.
Canyon Lake could take it to their next level as the game drew to a close when LB Andrew Kullberg sacked Gidding’s QB and all the Hawks had to do is run the clock for the win.
Just 67 yards of offense by the Buffaloes in that 2nd half as the defense was intragal in helping CL winning this hard fought game.
The defensive line for the Hawks was all over the Gidding’s QB and that combined with good defensive back play had the Buffaloes with a dismal passing numbers.
How about 1 completion for 7 yards on 11 passes and don’t forget that interception that stared the second half with a bang and win.
Both of the Sub-Varsity teams won and now sport a combined 6-0 record as they parlay through this year’s games.
Now a game with Wimberley will be coming up next week and that will always be a good time with our friends on the other side of the ‘Backbone’.
Go Hawks!!
