Hawks Work Hard in Win over Eastside Memorial, 63-0

Canyon Lake knows all to well what Eastside Memorial is going through this season by starting over with just enough players to fill one team by this time of their season.
The Hawks might not have suffered player wise as much as EM but one thing is for sure is that many schools were all over CL their first year of competition.

Homecoming is right around the corner & Beat Boerne
Half of Canyon Lake’s games are in the top 10 scores above was during that season the Hawks won just one game against Ingram which was a team suffering through a dismal time in their history.
The average score allowed was 46.4 while the Hawks finished that first campaign with a 7.2 average. That includes the 21 to 14 point win over Ingram as that was also the most points in any game during that year where all the Hawks would get, was the applause of their family.
Now in CL’s ninth season they were paired up with a team that might have been beaten by that 2008 team by double digits.
This game went as expected with a 35 -0 score in the first stanza as Canyon Lake went into, let everyone play mode, early as this game continued. Last week in a game with a 6A school the Akins Eagles did not have an answer for the Slot-T offense and expecting a different result with a team that was put together with band-aids, would have the same result, times 100 being expected.

The Hawks took just 3 plays to get their first score as Micah St. John scored from 1 yard out after Joseph Ruiz got his chunk on a 58 yard run to set the ball up at the goal line doorstep.
A 14 yard average after a hand off would tell you all you needed to know on how this game would proceed. The running clock was instigated in the second quarter to help speed up this contest.
Eastside Memorial ran 7 plays on their first drive and after a decent punt, Heath McDonough would run 78 yards for the longest punt return in Hawk history for a score.
“I saw Caimen (McDonough) coming to block for me,” Heath McDonough said like a brother. “I just followed my brother.”
Richard Howell was the last Hawk to return a punt for a TD which happened in Austin in 2010 against Austin Travis. McDonough did run further for his score which might stand for a while.
A Panther fumble on their next possession had CL in business again as Tanner Faris had 23 yards for the score on the short drive and a, 21-0 lead.
With another defensive stop, the Hawks had a one play Austin Brennan run of 78 yards and a 28 point lead without showing any signs of slowing up as Eastside Memorial would fumble on their return of the kickoff, setting up Faris for his second touchdown on a 29 yard run for the 35 point lead.
North Shore says Go Hawks Beat Boerne
A clock that ran like Forest in the second half had the Hawks still able to get two more scores and seeing multiple players that had a chance to show their stuff as Anthony Jones was just 11 yards from reaching the 100 yard barrier finishing with 89 and a touchdown from 35 yards out.
“It is like, I can’t believe it,” Jones said. “I am going to come out and work 24-7, every time….I play to give it my all and I am going to work…work…work.”
Jackson Neel got a hand on one pass and intercepted another thrown ball as there was some happy players getting to take advantage of their chance to play.
“I saw the receiver coming up the field and then I saw the QB looking at him,” Neel said in recalling that interception. “This was exciting for me and it was good for me for future games.”
The defense was stout as C. J. Parrish was huge plugging the middle as AE did have a running back that was a load if he could get some steam on his run. There was one of those carries that Parrish and the Panther back had a collision that had some earth movement.
Parrish also had a fumble recovery early in the game helping to set up the inevitable stage for a run-a-way win.
“Today we knew they did not have a good record,” Parrish said. “But you cannot underestimate and we did what we could and this game was good because we had a chance to let all the players that work so hard all the time get a chance to play and it was nice to see that.”
Parker Reno was also instrumental in setting the stage on how this game would finish as Canyon Lake had their first shut-out since the school started and that goal was realized.
“We always have to move forward,” Reno said like he was in Nevada. “Our Coaches just tell us to do our job for every play and we will be fine.”
Now the Hawks will go into a huge week of preparation as Boerne will come to town for CL’s Homecoming game this next Friday.
Boerne took care of Fredericksburg and will have some momentum coming to the Hawk Nest as the winner will have the inside track for a chance of finishing atop of the District 14-4A standings.
“We got to have our best practices this week,” Heath McDonough said with resolve.
Parrish closed with this, “Boerne will be a tough game…but we will need everyone to work hard and we will need to execute and not have mental mistakes.”
