Winning ways continue for this year’s JV-1 squad as they finished off the Wimberley Texans in grand fashion, 42-36.

That score makes this game seem much closer than it actually was as the Hawks controlled this contest from the opening tip to that final horn.

Caroline Kullberg led all scorers with 18 points which was just off being half of the teams points.

The Hawk pressure had the Texans’ with a multitude of turnovers which is saying something given that Canyon Lake was also a frequent visitor to the turnover whistle with 31 for the game.

CL had foul trouble throughout the game which was a contributing factor in how this game finished with a 6 point win as Wimberley had the lead once, 3-2 at the 6 minute mark in that first quarter.

Canyon Lake’s largest lead ballooned to 11 points after a Kullberg layup in the second stanza with the Hawks flying high leading, 16-5.

Wimberley had a camp fire at their charity stripe as they left 27 points on the sideline as the Texans sang kumbayah after a stellar 21% shooting percentage from the line. One too many marshmallows as this game could have easily been won with a better performance from the line.

Contrast those 34 free shots with the Hawks 8 tries tells you that the Hawks are a very aggressive team with boundless energy.

The defense was a key ingredient with 16 steals helping CL to stave off the Texans for this win.

“In the very beginning we were way nervous than our other games,” Emily Boylan deduced. “This is our rival school and with all those foul calls it slowed us down.”

Some of those Hawk players could never get in a rhythm as foul trouble plagued this Hawk team all night.

“Caroline (Kullberg) was what we needed in the beginning and she brings enthusiasm when we see her with the ball,” Boylan closed.

CL JV 1 is still undefeated as they will be back on the court next week as they relish with a win over their rival Texans.
