CL Hawks Have Complete Win over Poteet, 76-39
Canyon Lake looked good in beating the Aggies this past Tuesday night at the Hawk Nest with a satisfying, 76-39 victory.
“I was worried about this game going in,” Head Coach Luke Chapman recalled. “We did a good job and played with emotion and energy and sustained it throughout the whole game.”
The Hawks had 3 players reach double figures with 14 coming from a starter in Rory Preiss and the other two players shared 11 points a piece coming off the bench.
Charlie McIntosh and Bennie Brownlee were those players that continued their pressure on the Aggies after scoring 22 combined points coming off the bench.
“We have to keep playing hard and knocking down shots,” McIntosh started. “We kept our turnovers low and stayed patient while keeping the tempo and continued playing good defense.”
CL is On-Point for Hawk Sports
That had been missing in many games this season and if the Hawks can continue to have production off the bench then those happenings can certainly help as CL approaches district play.
In CL’s last win against Karnes City, the Hawk bench did not have one shot going in and this turn added some much needed ammo for those upcoming tough games with Navarro and Wimberley.
The starters scored (41) while the Hawk bench finished with (35) as every player had points with no let down offensively.
The McDonough Brothers (Heath and Caimen) had a lethal attack combining for 16 points and 13 rebounds as their energy continues to be on high octane as both played valuable minutes.

“We played at our level and played as if the the game was close,” Caimen McDonough assessed as sometimes a team might not keep their intensity up when they are up by a busload of points. “We took this game as a warm-up going into our next two games.”
Another Hawk that has had a turn-a-round campaign is Tyler Williams scoring 9 points and 7 rebounds. In Williams last two games, this jumping jack, has garnered 11 blocks as he closes in on Sean Nolan’s career leading total of 85. That number will be good for second place if Williams can secure enough minutes for future blocking chances needing 3 more rejections with 10 games left in the regular season.

With the Aggies short bench, Canyon Lake, in previous year’s might have struggled in having a complete game of dominance. That was not the case on this night as the Hawks took control with a 25 point first quarter and would be up 39 points entering the 4th stanza.
CL had an 8 point lead in the first 2 minutes of the opening tip-off, and at the halfway mark enjoyed an 18-3 advantage with the Hawks firing on all cylinders.
With a three pointer by Bennie Brownlee to end the first quarter, CL would have a comfortable 19 point lead.
Canyon Lake shot 67% to start the game and simmered down a tad going into halftime with a 58% shooting lights out against Poteet.
Pink Elephant says Go Hawks
Every Hawk had already had their say in scoring points as the players coming off the bench had no let down with a lead that just kept on increasing during the passing of time.
Slumps were not a problem as the Aggies just did not have the height or numbers to stage any type of momentum for a comeback.
Canyon Lake will be in Navarro this Friday to see if this hot streak might continue as these next two non-district games will be a good gauge to see if CL has what it will take to compete in District 28-4A after the Wimberley contest next Tuesday.
