The Hawk JV team crushed the Poteet Aggies last Tuesday after storming to a 17-4 first quarter and then coasting to the game’s end winning, 63-29.

Three CL players had double figure scoring with Hank Jordan accumulated 19, Michael Harwell scored 15 and Anthony Zavala was strong off the bench finishing with 10 points and 8 rebounds.

“I’m happy with the win,” Harwell started on how this team will take this game into the next two contests. “I am looking forward to seeing us play really well as a team.”

Harwell reminds you of the ‘Ever Ready Battery’ commercial as there is non-stop action when this young man goes after the rock.

“If I get tired then I just have to fight through it,” Harwell said while beating the drum. “Hustling is the main thing to do in sports.”

Jordan controlled the boards with 14 rebounds having a strong game on both sides of the court.

Canyon Lake started this game on fire after pouring in 15 points before the Aggies could score via a free throw with 2 minutes remaining in that opening quarter.

Poteet had no answer for this onslaught as the Aggies were short handed with 8 players suited up and not enough players to stage a comeback.

The Hawks upped their 20 point halftime lead to 31 going into the final stanza as there were no glitches on whoever Coach Hooper had enter the contest. Having a smooth offense was evident with a non-stop point production going deep into the 4th quarter with the largest advantage ballooned to 37 points, 61-24 with less than 2 minutes to play.

Jordan had 8 points with 4 offensive rebounds during the last quarter as Poteet had nothing left in their tank playing with so few personnel against the Hawks 13 players biting at the bit for an opportunity to get some action.

There was some good plays throughout this game as players like Tae Gray went coast to coast on several occasions with a score or dishing off for an assist.

“Move the ball to an open man,” Tae Gray said. “We needed to take high quality shots and we took advantage of mismatches.”

On what Gray was looking for on those drives, “I was using my court vision and reading the defender to take it (ball) all the way so we could score the ball.”

              Go Hawks

Now the Hawks will need to up there game against Navarro having a higher level of play.

“We would just like to end non-district playing lights out and get our offense up to par,” Jordan rebounded. “We are finally getting people from football that are starting to know the offense and we will play these big games for a chance of going strong into district.”

Canyon Lake will have some battles coming this Friday and next Tuesday as old district mates, Navarro and Wimberley, are scheduled for a stiffer challenge.

Go Hawks!!
