CL Hawks set up battle for 2nd place after win over Bandera, 58-51. Canyon Lake will now see if they can secure the 2nd Seed next Tuesday when they once again take to the road in preparation with their showdown with the Greyhounds.

District 28-4A just had a big development after a Boerne win over Fredericksburg and throwing a 3 way tie for the top spot.

Hawks takes no Bull from Opponents!! Go Hawks

There are two options for Canyon Lake based on a couple of assumptions.

If both Boerne and Fredericksburg win their games over Hondo and Bandera then a Hawk win over the Greyhounds would give CL a 2nd Seed.

A Canyon Lake loss to Boerne would give CL a 3rd Seed for their first round in the playoffs.

Fredericksburg has the tie breaker by beating the Hawks in both games. There would be a hornet’s nest of turmoil if the Billies or Greyhounds lost one of their games mentioned above.

This is a year of firsts for CL as this win over Bandera guarantees a winning record. The best season before this year was the second year of competition when that group finished with a 14-18 record.

Canyon Lake has a 11-8 district record the past two years which is more than half of the wins the Hawks had in all of their district games combined. Between the 2011 to 2014 seasons, Canyon Lake, was a dismal 2-42 against district opponents.

The 16 victories posted for this season is 2 more wins than that 2010 campaign.

Rory Preiss is now on a 12 game double digit scoring streak after having 18 in the win over the Bulldogs. Heath McDonough continues to show a lot of offense scoring 12 in this win followed by Jacob Ramirez finishing with 11 points.

Gerrit Wilkins dished off 6 assists from his guard spot helping in this win.

The Hawks had another low game in turnovers with 13 as Canyon Lake has worked down their average turnovers per game to right under 17 per game. Four weeks ago that average was over 22 per game.

The past 4 years of Hawk Turnovers:

                   # of TO’s games average
 2017 488 29 16.8
 2016 575 31 18.4
 2015 580 30 19.3
 2014 556 27 20.6

You can see how each year since 2014 the Hawks have had a reduction of turning the ball over to the opposition.

Rebecca Creek Golf, says Go Hawks!

It does not take much to increase wins each year as this formula has many variables to enter to have a good result of wins and having a longer season.

Canyon Lake will make their short trip to Boerne next Tuesday with a chance of securing a 2nd Seed in district play.

That is another First!
