Top Ten Hawk Games: #9 CL Hawks 40 Blanco 07
Number 9 for our countdown happened in Blanco when the Hawk Football team got a Panther off their back when they stopped a losing streak to our neighbors to the tune of, 40-7.
This game was delayed over an hour as there was a fierce lightning storm and the two combatants retreated to their locker room (CL gathered in their Hawk School Bus).
Not a fun start to a season when you are in full pads and sitting through a storm in those comfortable bus seats.
The Hawks had been in a 3 year losing streak with the Panthers and those games were sound beatings which had CL starting from scratch for their next contest as they would look to revamp, in hopes of getting back on track.
Both sides of the ball had a good start to their season as the offense totaled 500 yards while the defense allowed just 152 yards to the Panthers.
In those recent games with Blanco, the Hawks offense has waited for their 2nd game of the season to get on track and having the offense coming out of their bus, after the delay, with abandon had to put a smile on the Coaches faces.
The score was tied at 7-all going into the 2nd Quarter and that was the start when Senior Running Back, Austin Brennan with two carries equaled Blanco’s total yardage with a 61 and 90 yard jaunts to the end-zone.
Tanner Faris was the other Hawk topping the 100 yard marker as both players would go on to 1000
yard seasons.
Another good sign was having Trenton Lorett proving that he could convert the pat’s with just one miss out of 5 tries. That stat would have this Sophomore not missing until the 9th game as he proved to be an automatic after seeing a graduating Mike Thorpe leaving that hole to fill.
Blanco was no match for CL’s defense as the Panther’s QB would complete the same amount of passes to his receivers and Canyon Lake after a Hawk interception.
The line of scrimmage was the biggest improvement as Jacob Foster and company had their way in steamrolling the lanes for the Hawk rushers.
Canyon Lake seemed to have a mental block when starting their season and with this win, that block was transferred to the offensive line in how they blocked the Panthers for a very satisfying win to start their campaign.
That elevated this game to the #9th spot for this year’s, Hawk Top Ten Countdown.
